The car was a 250 HP 327 with a floor shifted Powerglide. I converted the car to a 4 speed using an original clutch pedal and linkage from another 63. The car has a 1965 Muncie M-20 all professionally rebuilt and a Hurst Competition Plus shifter with a remake of an older Impala Shifter Handle. Has a new RAM clutch and shifts like butter in all gears. The console is from a 4-speed car and I have all the original parts to put this car back to its original 327 Powerglide if you want.
The 327 started on the 2nd try after 20 years in storage! But I rebuilt it anyway. I had it bored 30 over and used Speedpro flat top pistons. It has a mild cam making about 325 HP. I used the 1. 94 double-hump 64 cc 327 heads (yes. I have the original Powerpack heads if you want them). These heads were all professionally redone (at great expense) with new hardened valve seats. new valves. new springs and rocker arms. seals. etc. I also converted this to a QuadraJet with working choke. and an HEI ignition. Also features new Rams-horn exhaust manifolds 2. 5 inches leading into a standard dual exhaust system made for this car (Classic Industries). Sounds great!
New starter. regulator. alternator and battery. of course. I did sell off the original radiator and replaced it with a new 3-row Harrison that would have come with the 300 HP 327 option. New heater core. Car never runs hot.
I cleaned and painted the frame (sprayed with enamel plus hardener) and left the sheet-metal underside of the car pretty much as I found it to show it as a survivor car with little use. Installed all new rubber body mounts. I replaced the gas tank and sender. rebuilt the rear brakes. new shoes. new wheel cylinders and brake lines. Driveshaft was professionally shortened to accommodate the 4-speed. and has new u-joints. center-carrier bearing. and was balanced. New pinion seal. shocks. etc.
I installed an In-Line Tube disc brake conversion that accommodates the original 14-inch wheels. All new radial tires. Stops on a dime!
I rebuilt the suspension featuring new A-arm bushings. upper and lower ball joints. tie rod ends. and shocks. I also rebuild the entire power steering system. including a new Valve ($250). all hoses. and moving parts. The car goes down the road straight and true with no rattles or concerns.
All electrical works and was updated. 2-Speed wipers with new blades.
The car was hand stripped of all paint (no sand blasting). . . a few minor dents were hammer and dollied out. This car is not a bondo-queen! It was painted with basecoat clear coat in its original beautiful maroon. The car is laser-straight! Professionally prepped and painted.
I saved as much of the original trim as possible. . . some was dented. The Engine Turned side trim is all new (most of the parts for this car are high quality and expensive from Classic Industries). Rear trim panel is original and not perfect but very nice and I have another one that can go with the car for a minor cost. Original grille (again with another spare for a minor cost if wanted). New Hood and Trunk medallions and chrome bezels. Front bumper is original and very nice (does have a minor nick or two) and the rear bumper is new. (I replaced it because the original had an annoying bump in it that just made it a little less than perfect).
The interior features the original door panels and rear seat. The buckets were redone with new padding and covers. New package tray. New padded dash ($400). Everything works but the original radio. Has a new rear seat speaker. new Equuis Gauges and a retro Sun tach. All original glass except for a brand new windshield. New carpet and the original white headliner in remarkable condition. All new weatherstripping.
I doubt you can find a nicer Impala Super Sport for this money. . . you certainly couldn't build it for my asking price. It's not a perfect car. but it's darn close for a 53 year old car! I hate to sell it. but I have a 65 GTO I need to restore. This is one of the nicest. most pleasant driving cars I've built. Drive this one anywhere. It's quiet. quick. reliable. and pretty! Clean Montana Title. We live just 20 miles South of Missoula. off major east/west Interstate 90. I can meet the truck nearby and help load.
Reasonable Reserve for this car. Thanks! On Aug-01-16 at 06:16:52 PDT. seller added the following information:
If you have zero Feedback. please contact me before bidding. Thanks!
A couple updates. the car does have the typical small block Chevy rear main seal drip. only after driving. but doesn't leak while driving. A couple drops. This is probably common to 90% of these engines of course. Also. I tried to add a YouTube link to a quick walk-around video. eBay doesn't allow links anymore I guess. you can find it by searching "1963 Chevy Impala Super Sport" on YouTube. Thanks!!!
