Current customer rating:
3 time LeMons veteran race car. Finished every event it ran. Received Judges' Choice Award at 2010 "Capitol Offense" at Summit Point. The car is slow. but bulletproof. Even with 4 year old fuel in the tank. it fires up immediately.
Between 2010 and 2012. we completed the following repairs and additions:6 point rollcage4 pole kill switchAdjustable racing seatNew oversize VW Passat front calipers New front rotorsNew rear cylindersRebuilt master cylinderNew front strutsNew rear shocksRear sway barOversize '78 front sway barNew clutch. throwout bearing. and pressure plateMikuni bike carb conversionCleaned and sealed fuel tankNew tiresRewired everything aft of firewall and downstream from fuse/relay panelLexan windshield Until 4 months ago. we always stored the car indoors. Since then. it has been under a cover outside. Some metal has very light surface rust. as viewable in the photos. Cage was up to LeMons spec as of 4 years ago. It may require modification to meet current LeMons safety requirements.
To be track worthy again. it could use the following TLC:Thorough carb cleaningThe bowls are leaking fuel. probably from stuck float valves due to 3 year old fuel and varnish. Leaky carbs are a serious fire hazard. so cannot stress this enough. Fuel system flushIt runs. but it's 4 years old. Brake flushThey work fine but it's 5 year old fluid. Oil ChangeCause why not? Other than that. this car basically needs nothing else. Of course. there is no warrantee express or implied as this is a 40 year old car built by amateurs. There is also no guarantee as to the fitness of the safety equipment -- use it at your own risk. And in case it's not obvious. this is not a street legal vehicle.
Here is a video of it starting up in April after 3 years -- https://www. youtube. com/watch?v=NphprAAQrUQ
And here's a blog highlighting the buildout -- http://porschenator. tumblr. com/
