EXTERIOR
This early Mk1 Morris Mini-Minor is presented almost entirely in its original coat of Tartan Red. The bodywork displays a wonderful aged patina throughout. and remains without the need for restoration. What really makes this example so special is that it has never required any welding or replacement panels. Having spent the majority of its life under a cover there is no major rust to the body or the underside. which still retains its original thick coat of underseal. as specified on the order from when new.
The car maintains a charming finish. untainted by any restorative work. and presents exclusively with all its original panels and components. Both doors hang just as they should. and shut with a hearty thud. Usual problem areas such as the scuttle panel. ‘A' pillars. and floor pans all remain entirely solid. with the chrome throughout also in presentable. original condition.
INTERIOR
The bright Tartan Red interior is the perfect complement to the exterior paintwork. Having been fully covered in a fitted set of plastic seat covers from new. the upholstery remains in impeccable condition with no fading or damage to the original vinyl seats. The carpets are also in good condition. and being the factory set are very rare.
The interior retains all of the early Mini fittings and components. which are still in excellent order. The headlining is unblemished with only minor wear visible to the padded vinyl on the dash. Protecting the front foot wells is a set of new black carpet overmats.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The engine bay is in very good order. as to be expected. with minimal surface corrosion to only a select few components. On the whole the area retains all original parts. with the exception of wear and tear items such as spark plugs. The car is. of course. matching numbers.
Since arriving 4 Star. the Mini has received a light mechanical overhaul to bring it up to scratch and make it a very useable driver; as such it is in excellent mechanical fettle. The trademark ‘magic wand' gear lever operates in a satisfying manner. and adds very much to the fun of driving this little car.
WHEELS. TYRES & BRAKES
The Mini currently sits on a brand new set of 3. 5" Cooper wheels finished in silver. They are shod in a new set of Falken tyres. which have seen zero use since their fitting. Like the headlamp guards. these wheels have been fitted solely for aesthetics.
The original set of steel wheels are still present with the car. and are finished in Old English white. They are in good order and are complete with the original chrome embellishers. as per Super Deluxe factory specification. The wheels are shod in a set of period tyres. which are in excellent condition.
HISTORY FILE
Leaving just £20 deposit. Marie Morris placed the order for her brand new Mini at Lyne. Frank & Wagstaff Ltd. Crouch End. on 9th November 1962. The total price of the car was £529. 40 to include the additional undersealing still present on the vehicle today. On November 30th a final invoice was raised. which specified the car's registration. engine. and chassis numbers. Four days later the Mini was registered to Mrs Morris. who collected it on December 5th and paid the remaining balance by cheque. Marie went on to use the car until late 1977 having covered just over 40k miles in it.
After close to 40 years in storage the Mini is ready to be enjoyed once more. Having never changed ownership or been registered electronically with the DVLA. this example remains a one-owner vehicle. and is complete with the original RF60 Registration book. as well as the dealer-fitted Bluemel number plates. The history file is packed full of original documents from the supplying dealer. as well as correspondence between Mrs Morris and BMC. The order form and delivery note are present. as are early insurance cover notes and nine pre-1975 MOT certificates. Present also are the Mini-Minor driver's handbook and an original sales brochure.
Completing the history file is a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate with the corresponding technical data sheet. We also have several Mini specialist invoices for many of the recent items purchased for the car.
