 History

This vehicle was bought new in Germany and was imported into Canada in the 1980's. It was driven for several years and then placed in storage. The car was sold and then disassembled by a  new owner and the chassis restored with new front fenders. rear SC quarter panels and repainted black with BASF basecoat clear. Custom floor panels were welded in and the car was under coated with a rust inhibitor. The car was then put in storage until the car was bought by the current owner and re-assembled in 1994 with new windshield. dash cover. rubber body seals. headliner and a number of small parts.

The car has been driven seasonally since the rebuild in 1994 and now has 123. 00 km.

The vehicle had approximately 92. 00 km on the odometer when purchased in 1992. The current owner cannot certify the actual mileage before purchase. however based on engine wear. there is no reason to believe the number is not correct.

Most of the restoration work described here was performed in 1994 at 92 000 km.

Before you Bid. This car is for Pickup. The car is located in Nova Scotia. If you are an experienced buyer and will cover shipping costs. insurance. import paperwork (if required) and every other detail;  please inform me of your interest and provide your credentials before bidding. Otherwise. the buyer must pick the car up in person or have an agent do it. I have no reason to believe that this car wouldn't be reliable on a road trip.

General Condition:
The car starts reliably and runs and drives fine.   Condition is good used.

Engine:
The engine is the original 2. 0 L with Weber triple-throat downdraft type 401DT3C1 Carburetors.
The cylinder heads were reconditioned with new valves. seals and guides. The engine case was rebuilt with new bearings and seals. The crankshaft was Magnufluxed and bearing surfaces were polished. The cylinders were deglazed and new OEM Mahle Rings installed.   The hydraulic chain tensioners were rebuilt. The Weber Carburetors were rebuilt.

The engine has some minor oil leaks as do most of the older 911s. but seldom leaves oil spots on the garage floor.   If the car is not driven for weeks at a time. it may smoke on start-up but that's not uncommon for early air-cooled engines. The 1994 rebuild did not include new pistons and cylinders so the compression is lower than a new engine. Oil consumption is within the 1L per 1000 km spec listed in the manual when factory recommended 20w50 multigrade oil is used.

Compression Results:

Cylinder    Compression
Pressure (psig)
1    140 (2012)
2    135 (2012)
3    135 (2012)
4    140 (2012)
5    145 (2012)
6    140 (2012)

Drivetrain:
The transaxle is the original 4 Speed type 901.
The syncros do have some wear; otherwise shifting is tight and smooth.
The flywheel was re-surfaced and a new Sachs clutch. pressure plate and release bearing installed.   New clutch guide tube.
The CV Joints were rebuilt and re-assembled with OEM one-piece boots.

Suspension:
The rear shock absorbers were replaced with OEM Koni.   New rear wheel bearings were installed.

Brakes:
The brake calipers have been rebuilt and new master cylinder installed.
The brakes are in good condition and the pads have about 80% remaining.

Exhaust:
The exhaust is original.
The Heat Exchangers have some issues and should eventually be replaced so the heater will work better.

Body:
The car is not show quality and is not presented as such. Because this car is over 45 years old and was rebuilt over 20 years ago. there are some cosmetic things that need work.   The paint looks good but there are some imperfections. stone chips. and touch-ups. There are a few pieces of trim. grommets and clips etc. that should be installed.   New front turn signal lenses were installed. The pedal cluster was rebuilt with new bushings.

Rust:
The car does not have any serious rust issues. Surface rust developed around the mirror mounts and under the front headlight rings but those areas were spot-blasted. prepped and painted. Rust problems in the lower arch below each torque tube was discovered in 2005. The bad metal was removed and pieces were fabricated and welded in. Pictures are available showing the repair.

Interior:
The interior is a mix of custom. later model carpet and original. There is a dash cover installer over the original. The radio is an older aftermarket unit. There are speakers installed in the doors but the original vinyl material for the door panels comes with the car. The Recaro seats do not have any tears but the fabric has had some repairs.

Electrical:
The left Bosch H1 Headlamp reflector needs to be restored and has a temporary repair. The battery boxes are in good condition but a single full-size battery was installed for convenience by relocating the water bottle. The tach occasionally stops at 4000 rpm but a spare tach is included with the car. The oil gauge sometimes sticks on startup and you need to tap it with your finger.

Tires:
The tires are in good condition but are not high performance.

Originality:
In many ways. the car is not original but those details are in the list of modifications or can be seen in the pics provided. There is nothing structurally modified that would prevent the car from being returned to original with some time and an investment.

Included:
The car comes with a copy of the original engine manual. a Haynes Manual. the original German ownership papers. an English language owner's manual and various small extras.

Upgrades. modifications and or factory options.
