1964 saw the introduction of the Fifth Generation T Bird's and what became affectionately known as the “Flare Birds. With a slightly squared off appearance which was most evident when viewed from the sides and rear.
The large wide mouthed chrome grill was retained with twin headlamps and the squarer slightly restrained lines gave a hint of the stylist's moves towards less extravagant automotive design that was to follow.
That being said this series of cars still represent a wonderful period of American auto design and this example in unmarked Tropical Turquoise with Metallic Aqua interior riding on Chrome Wire Wheels is simply stunning.
Extraordinary instrumentation is found behind the “Swing Away” steering wheel with each piece of driver information being relayed from within its own “Sputnik” styled pod. another influence from the then ever hotting up “Space Race”.
Seating for four or five adults is sumptuous with the by now familiar servings of Thunderbird Chrome being lavished wherever possible. The ride as usual is just fantastic. the familiar 6. 4L FE series V8 will waft the occupants to over 120mph on an Autobahn in the most outlandish style possible and give great enjoyment to all who have not witnessed the spectacle before.
This wonderfully sound example was restored in Washington State where it was purchased by a lady enjoying her fourth marriage as a birthday gift for her husbands 60th. they drove it to their second home in Phoenix Arizona where it remained for some years before we were able to acquire it.
We are certain that the new custodian will gain enormous pleasure from owning such an iconic vehicle in outstanding order throughout.
