Just like the Jaguar Mk. II had done in the 1960's. the BMW M5. br/>newly introduced for 1998. effectively reinvented the popular
notion of a sports saloon. Jaguar had just introduced an XJR with
365bhp. and Mercedes-Benz's latest E55 produced 350bhp so. after a
three-year absence. BMW responded last with an automotive knock-out
punch: the E39 M5. Its muscular bodywork concealed a 5. 0-litre. br/>DOHC 32-valve. V8 with variable valve-timing producing roughly
400bhp and mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Sitting on alloy
wheels. daring drivers could sprint from 0-60 in just 4. 7 seconds;
faster than a Porsche 911. while roaring through the gears with a
7. 00rpm redline and a throaty exhaust note blaring through four
exhaust tips.

This superb M5 has had two former keepers and has been
maintained to a very high standard with 11 stamps in the service
book the first ten from the supplying deal and more recently by
Ascot BMW. Finished in Le Mans blue with full black leather trim. br/>this is a high specification example including double glazing. The
engine burst into life when requested and the car drove smoothly. br/>quietly but very efficiently on our test drive; the six-speed
manual Getrag gearbox makes this car a delight to drive. Frequently
BMW M5's have had a hard life; this example has clearly been very
well looked after and presents in excellent order throughout.
Supplied with a V5 registration document and an MoT test
certificate valid until 22nd June 2016. M5s were produced in
limited numbers and as such are widely regarded as a future
classic.
