In 1999. the Corvette was offered as a limited production Fixed Roof Coupe commonly known as a hardtop. These FRC's were designed to be faster and lighter than any Corvette in history. In 2001. the FRC's name was changed to Z06 with the addition of the LS6 engine. Because the FRC Hardtop was only produced on a limited basis for a year and a half. it is the rarest of C5 Corvettes. The Hardtop's underbody structure is the stiffest of all C5s. It has both the Coupe's "top bow" and the extra crossbar behind the seats. characteristic of the Convertible. Its exterior bodywork behind the windshield and above the belt line is bolted to the windshield header and is bolted and adhesively bonded to the rear deck. The underbody structure. the hard top and the lack of the big hole in the back for the hatch make the Hardtop about 12% stiffer in torsion and bending than the Coupe with its roof in place. Additionally. though the removal of the coupe's heavy hatch glass and lighter top structure. the Hardtop's curb weight is 80 pounds less than the lightest Coupe. This hardtops comes with the Tremec T56 six-speed transmission. a 3. 42 limited slip axle and the Z51 Performance Handling Package which consists of higher rate springs and stabilizer bars and a set of stiffer. fixed-valve. shocks. For increased performance for the average driver. this car has the RPO JL4 Active Handling System. "AH" piggybacks to ABS and traction control and can assist the driver in maintaining control in gross oversteer/understeer situations with momentary brake intervention on a single wheel basis. The 345 bhp LS1 engine is unrestricted with a speed or RPM governor. For the racing applications that this car was designed for. this is a must. This car has a little more that 81. 00 miles on it. The majority of the miles on the car were from long-distance highway trips between Las Vegas NV and Vancouver BC along with some other distance locations. The Goodyear Eagle tires were purchased in May of 2015 and currently have under 10 miles on them. Since I bought the car it has been garaged and covered at all times. The paint is in excellent condition with minor wear consistent with a well maintained car this age. The oil has been changed regularly with Pennzoil Platinum fully synthetic oil as recommended by the factory. The cold air intake has been upgraded giving extra 7% in HP. This car is mechanically perfect and ready to drive. Fuel economy is 19MPG city and 31MPG highway. That's not a typo. 31MPG from a 345 bhp Corvette!
