EXTERIOR
This generation saw some truly wild concepts as manufacturers began to go further with aerodynamics and turbocharging; wholly encompassed by the awesome Group 5 racing series. Looking resplendent in the iconic Guards red. this 924 Carrera GT is really something special with only 75 UK examples of which only 45 are thought to remain. There is never any chance of confusing this Carrera GT with a normal 924. from the recently restored front and rear polyurethane flared arches and of course the large air scoop which feeds the all-important intercooler. Considering the body addenda attached the car only weighs in at a mere 1. 80kg. The bodywork shines and presents well. whilst all lights are free from damage and misting. The trim looks fresh with only minor deterioration to the extended rear spoiler and a dusting of touched up stone chips on the wing mirrors. With huge presence this 924 really is a racer for the road. homologated for the worlds most renowned endurance race – Le Mans.

INTERIOR
The classic cloth / pinstripe combo is unique to the GT and competes with that bodywork for '80s design flair. The dashboard is crack free. with the dials fully functional and some additional running time info on the central binnacle inclusive of oil pressure. voltmeter and lap timer (dash clock!). The cloth presents extremely well. maintaining good original shape and profile whilst pleasingly free of marks or tears with seat operation and adjustment working as it should.

The unique removable roof offers something close to a Targa experience should the weather allow. whilst a Kenwood head unit will keep you entertained as a Turbo soundtrack alternative.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Homologation of the engine needed some considered steps with Porsche aiming for class victory at Le Mans and as expected there are some unique parts; namely the lighter forged pistons. a slightly larger version of the 931 KKK turbocharger running at . 75 bar and a unique – although still similar to the European Series II 924 Turbo unit – Digital Ignition Timing Computer (DITC). With a recent comprehensive major service. cambelt and tensioner replacement. this boosted 2. 0 is feeling strong for its 210bhp with the power delivery full of character and feeling every bit the lightweight special – boosting well and sustaining strong torque through the slick dogleg ‘ box.

WHEELS. TYRES & BRAKES
The restored Fuchs stand as a style icon that spans generations of classic Porsche and look entirely at home in those blistered arches. Wrapped in excellent Dunlop SP sports all round. the car has also been subject to new suspension bushes followed by full camber. geometry and tracking of the sports chassis to ensure a focus and balance you would expect of an homologation special.

HISTORY FILE
Supplied new to Motortune of Brompton Road in February 1981. this 924 has had the same owner for the last 12 years. Sadly. the service book has been misplaced although there are considerable invoices from both Charles Ivey and HR Owen amongst periodic MOT certificates to confirm mileage. Over the last 3 years the car has had much time and care lavished upon it; restoration and refit of the polyurethane rear arch extensions. new dash and the more recent full service / cambelt ensure this CGT is ready for immediate summer deployment.
