The BMW New Class was a line of compact saloons and coupes
produced between 1962 and 1977. It ensured BMW's solvency after the
company's financial crises of the 1950s and went on to established
the company's sporting credentials. Initially a series of
four-door saloons. the New Class line was broadened to include the
2000C and 2000CS two-door coupés at the high end in 1965 and the
1600 two two-door economy sedan at the low end in 1966.

BMW decided to continue with a coachbuilt coupé. which
they would use to introduce the two litre version of the M10
engine. The New Class coupé was built by Karmann and released in
the summer of 1965. The styling of the coupé was based on that of
the 3200CS. but had unique front end styling.
The two litre version of the M10 engine used a dual-carburettor
system that delivered 120hp with either manual or automatic
transmission while CS variant was available only with a manual
gearbox.

The known history of this car begins with the acquisition by
Sqn. Ldr. Kenneth James Nalson. known for flying Halifax bombers
during the War. He appears to have owned it right up until 1981
where upon it passed to his son. Peter Nalson. It is thought that
it was during his tenure that the colour was changed from factory
Chamonix White to its current Triumph Saffron Yellow. It was then
stored in a barn for the next 35 years until recently when it was
been disinterred and recommissioned. It has undergone a
complete engine-out rebuild with new clutch. rear-wheel cylinders
and shoes and a full calliper rebuild for the front brakes. A new
BMW exhaust has also been fitted as well as a balancing the prop
and drive shafts. The body appears sound and the interior is
excellent for the age. It runs well and comes with an MoT test
certificate valid until the end of June. 2015. Indeed. with only
144 built in righthand drive configuration. it is reported that
just six remain left on the road today. an interesting and rare
sporting coupé in good order.
