This Stunning 1973 Superior Cadillac Crown Sovereign Combination Ambulance/Hearse Coach belonged to the Late John R. Keel of Freeland Michigan. USA.   He affectionately named each of his cars. he named this coach "Ravenna".   This exquisite coach definitely has some history and a story connected to it. you could say this car is famous and people definitely love seeing it at car shows! After the young 18 year old John R. Keel passed away suddenly in December of 2002. Car And Driver Magazine wrote a 6 page article about him and his love for cars.   You can read about John and his car collection of 4 cars. including his best and most beautiful car Ravenna the combination ambulance/hearse in the May 2004 Car And Driver Article entitled "The Boy Who Loved Hearses".   This article sparked interest from many movie companies. one was Film 101 Productions. they made a documentary about John also entitled "The Boy Who Loved Hearses".   In memory of John. the Professional Car Society created the John R. Keel Youthful Enthusiasm Award that they bestow upon a recipient every year at their annual meeting/car show.   If you Google John R. Keel the top 3 entries will include more information about him. if you select the YouTube video. "Hearse's Born To Be Alive" you will see a picture of Ravenna at a car show . also select images to see John's tombstone containing an engraved picture of Ravenna.

This is an excellent car. nbsp;it runs very well and everything works great on it such as the lights and sirens!  In past years this coach was driven to many Professional Car Society meets in John's honor such as the Pittsburg. PA Meet. the Denver. nbsp;CO Meet and the Kingsport. TN Meet and many other chapter events in Michigan. Canada. nbsp;Indiana. Iowa and Ohio.  This was John's most beloved car. Ravenna. it is a stunning coach that many people have offered to purchase over the years since John's passing!  John bought this car from his friend in Ohio who had the car for a few hours before John found out about it and bought it immediately. this was in the fall of 2002.

We found out It was originally purchased in 1973 by the Bayliff Funeral Home in Ohio.   They painted it their signature color for their fleet of vehicles which is "Marimba Red" still to this day.    John contacted them and we were able to get the two original red beacon lights for the top and the original stretcher along with linens stamped with the Bayliff Funeral Home name.   The car has all the original stuff used when it was an ambulance stored still in the many compartments. so you'll love that it has all these special items!  Also. they gave us the original 1973 Superior car 50th anniversary brochure along with a couple of photos they took of the car when it was new. (these items are included with the purchase of the car)  We were very happy to obtain these original items to put back into the car.

When John got this amazing coach home he couldn't wait to show it to me!  I vividly remember John pointing out every detail inside and outside of this lovely coach. it took a couple of hours!  This car is prominently featured in the Car And Driver May 2004 article.   Since this coach was so special to John. I took a side view photograph of Ravenna. the Crown Sovereign emblems and landau bars.  They are color etched on John's tombstone in the LaPorte Cemetery.

Also. there is a custom car cover that comes with this coach. embroidered with her name "Ravenna" in red :)

Everything on this beautiful car works great and this car always gets a lot of attention when driving it and taking it to car shows.   Ravenna has been set up in ambulance mode since my son. John. purchased it.   But in just a few minutes you can convert this car back into a hearse by taking off the two lights and folding down the two ambulance attendance seats (which when folded down do not even show that they are there) and remove the stretcher.   These combination cars are very rare and an outstanding display of vehicular craftsmanship!

We have spent over $15. 00 in fixing/repairing this car such as: all under car brake lines replaced. new transmission. alternator. carburetor. rear end differential. a new battery and many more things as well.   The current mileage is 107. 83.   She starts right up and runs like a dream. but I have not driven this car a great distance in many years.   This car has been garaged and out of the elements for storage.

The family of John R. Keel is no longer able to keep this great car. so if you'd like to give Ravenna a new home this is your opportunity to have a rare. exquisite. famous "Crown" jewel of coaches.

This car is currently located in Freeland. Michigan.   Buyer is responsible for shipping arrangements.   There is No Warranty and is being sold in As Is Condition.

Buyer will need to show up in person to sign the title and for final payment and pick up/transport of Ravenna the coach.
