Mercedes-Benz : Other S

Up for auction is our 1958 Mercedes S 220.   This Mercedes has recently under gone a full restoration to very high standards with no expenses spared. This car was originally ordered by a Denver. Colorado based United Airlines pilot who flew internationally.   The car was ordered and delivery was taken in Germany then shipped to the US.   This is why the interior is cloth and not leather. as all of the US models had leather.  

It was only in service as a daily driver for several years until the pilot sold the car to his neighbor where it was retired as a driver and put into indoor storage.   Four decades later and with only 66. 00 miles the car was discovered when the property was sold.   It had been so well preserved that it only needed the cosmetics and mechanical rebuild work.   There was no rust and it was all there with nothing missing.  

The restoration was very complete.   All of the drivetrain was rebuilt and detailed to factory specifications. Under the hood is all numbers matching and correct. The suspension and brakes were inspected and replaced as needed.    This car runs and drives perfect making it a real pleasure.   The body was stripped. primed and block sanded multiple times getting it straighter than factory.   The paint job is beautiful and has been color sanded and polished.   All of the glass was removed. cleaned and replaced with all new gaskets and whiskers.   The stainless trim was also professionally polished and restored to “better than new” along with all of the chrome plated bumpers. grill shell. light trim etc.   The chrome plating was done to “show quality”.   The tail light lenses along with many other detail parts were replaced with N. O. S. Mercedes parts.

The interior was also done to a very high level.   The wood dash and door trim was removed and sent to an “old school” furniture craftsman for their restoration.   The wood is now absolutely beautiful.   All of the dash trim and gauges were restored and look stunning.   The seats. carpet. headliner and door panels were professionally upholstered to factory specifications.   New door weather-strip and seals make this car quiet and solid going down the road.   The radio was the only thing upgraded from original.   It is a modern CD player with smart phone capabilities and a remote.    The trunk is finished in the correct satin black with the rubber floor mat.   The original spare wheel. jack and hardware are all in place.
