Mercedes-Benz : 300-Series Four Door Saloon LWB for sale
Current customer rating: (210 votes ) based onI'm sadly selling my 1973 MB 300 SEL. I have been very fond of Mercedes ever since I was a little kid. For decades I've collected quite a few Mercedes (mostly fintails) and I'm in the process of building a garage to house only a few of them and sell off a the rest. this being one of them.
This is a lovely Green/Tan 300 SEL that starts up right away like a new car. This last July was the first time I started it in four years. I got in the drivers seat. turned the key and within a couple of cranks it started right up. Believe it or not the air-bags held air all of those years. Yes it has the original air-suspension with all four air-bags that work properly and do not leak. Also All the Vacuum Door Locks work as they did when sold new. Even the Gas-Door locks properly. The car drives great and the transmission shifts and operates as it should. I would not hesitate to drive this car on a long road trip in its mechanical condition. (The tires have plenty of tread on them although they are old and starting to show cracks from age)
This MB lived in the SF bay area and is almost 100% rust free except for the left rear quarter at the absolutely lowest point where the drain hole is. It was caused by the drain becoming clogged. I unclogged it. cleaned it up and It's been fine for 10+ years. Other then that. looking under the MB you'll notice that it is dry and there are no leaks in the Motor or Transmission.
Random points:
-The pictures of the car have been taken on October 16th. 2014.
-The gas in the tank was more than four years old. Even after four years of not driving this MB. last July 2014 I started it up with four-year-old gas in the tank and there was No smoke from the exhaust whatsoever. The motor is healthy. Since then I have been driving it to and from the store adding 17 gallons of fresh gas and it runs great.
-Power Windows operate as they should but the left rear window is slow.
-The Factory Power Sunroof works well. In the morning sometimes it needs a little help in mid-opening.
-All Vacuum Door-Locks work.
-The Factory Air-Conditioning is not cold.
-The condition of the interior is as pictured. The drivers seat is comfortable although you can see the leather is not in perfect condition.
-Interior flaws: The wood on the dashboard. the a crack in the dash.
-The exterior paint is not original although it looks great as the pictures show.
My goal is to sell this Mercedes with a reasonable end-of-auction-bid. The reserve is set at what I consider a reasonable price.
Good luck on your bidding.
