1963 1/2 Mercury Marauder S55
This is a 1963 1/2 Mercury Marauder S55. This car was. as the story goes. bought new by a lady in the Los Angles. Ca area. It was driven until 1979 when for some reason it was put in storage. It was brought out of storage early in 2013. two gentlemen in Florida purchased it. had it hauled to Florida and did what is being called a preservation that included changing all fluids. going thru the brakes. new tires. installing Petronix ignition and a new headliner and trunk mat. The main thing was to make sure it was safe to drive after all those years in storage.
This is one rare car according to records there was only 9615 fastback 631/2 Marauders built. Of that only 2317 were S55 versions and this is thought to be the only one painted the ultra rare F-code Pink Luster color.
To go along with the rare factor is the fact that according to Barrett-Jackson archives they have only sold one 631/2 Marauder and wasn't a S55 version. Also according to Mecum archives they have never sold a 631/2 Marauder muck less an S55. This the Mercury version of the Ford 500XL. there are a lot 500XL's around so to speak but try to find an S55.
After I bought the S55 I had some more work done. nbsp;new gaskets for an exhaust leak at the manifolds. automatic choke was missing parts had it fixed right. nbsp;transmission was not working right had it rebuilt. brake booster was bad had it rebuilt. fuel gauge not working had it fixed. brake hoses looked bad replaced.
This car is very much the way it came off the assembly line. very much original. the battery cable. the exhaust system. the interior. There is no sign of any body work. but the paint is a little in spots. the stainless trim is in great shape. the chrome is very good with some minor pitting. There is sun damage to the top of the back seat it you look close at the photos you can see it. There is also two seams coming apart on the front seats that you can also see. The rest of the interior is in very good shape in my opinion. The car will come with some documentation. some original parts that have been replaced but saved and the original California black plates. Yes the car is a little rough in places. but for 50 years old and sitting in storage for 34 years with no care. I believe it to be quite good condition and a good candidate for a total restoration. The big thing is it is all there and all original right down to the correct hub caps for an S55.
Look over the photos close I have tried my best to show good stuff along with the bad. The car drives good. runs out good. the original miles are low about 24500.
