CUSTOM 1986 Jeep CJ7

Launched for 1976 and produced through 1986. the CJ-7 represented the ultimate evolution of the basic go-anywhere. do-anything Jeep (a derivation of GP = "General Purpose") of World War II fame. With its development rooted in the original CJ or "Civilian Jeep. which Willys-Overland initiated in 1944 when Allied victory was all but certain. the Jeep was relentlessly developed. improved. and virtually perfected through successive generations under four corporate parents. progressing from Willys through Kaiser. then American Motors. and finally Chrysler.

Following WW II. peace was short-lived. with the Korean Crisis erupting in June 1950 and quickly growing into all-out war. The CJ-3A. launched in 1950. updated and improved upon the basic Jeep concept. In military use. it was designated the M38 (or MC) and produced through 1952. with knocked-down kits assembled by Ford in Canada and other members of the Western Cold War alliance. Possessing uncanny maneuverability and the ability to traverse the most forbidding terrains imaginable. the CJ and its military counterparts carried an unbeatable image and attracted an exceptionally loyal following over the following decades. In addition. the Jeep gained its own unique brand status and went on to immense sales success worldwide in all of its various forms and models - a tradition that continues today. This 1986 CJ-7 is an excellent case in point.

The prior owner purchased this final-year 1986 Jeep CJ Laredo from the original owner in mint shape. with the vehicle benefiting from a complete frame-off restoration and build. The body was sanded to bare metal and painted Chevy white. and the frame was sandblasted and powder-coated black. An aluminum Chevy ZZ3 350 cu. in. crate engine rated at 345 hp. driving Dana 44 axles front and rear with 3. 50:1 gears and Positraction delivers power. The twin-stick transfer case contains a 4:1 low-gear set. A Ron Davis custom aluminum radiator handles cooling. A 6-inch lift kit with King bypass gas shocks ensures ground clearance.

Other excellent features include a full roll cage. custom side nerf bars. a custom front bumper. 9. 00-pound Warn winch. 110-amp alternator. ultra-bright "pencil point" PIIA driving lights. and custom-sanded and smoothed Jeep hard top. The interior is fitted with custom high-back bucket seats and full carpeting. Factory A/C and power steering. reworked gauges (including tachometer and clock). and all-new NOS wiring. plus a Cobra CB radio. round out the interior. Riding on aftermarket wheels and tires. this 1986 CJ7 marks the final model year of the iconic Jeep line immediately prior to the launch of the downsized YJ series.
