Ben Hewitt of AmericanWayMag. com wrote in his "Sexy Beasts" article:
"…By stuffing a 320-horsepower Ford-built motor into an Italian chassis. Qvale (say "kah-vah-lee") delivers a car capable of running neck and neck with pure-bred Italian supercars. at less than half the price… it's the perfect car for drivers who demand exclusivity but don't have three-quarters of a million dollars to buy it. In fact. the Mangusta is a far rarer beast than any Ferrari… And when mechanical maladies rear their ugly heads. a quick (and relatively inexpensive) visit to your local Ford dealer should set things straight. "

In 2004. Michael Frank of Forbes. com wrote:
"Ferrari sold 1. 00 cars in the United States last year. a near record annual sales figure for the exotic Italian carmaker. That explains why Ferraris continue to be exceedingly rare automobiles. and this level or rarity. should you be lucky enough to own one. also explains why other drivers gawk… Then again. if you were one of only 200 buyers last year who bought the Qvale Mangusta. you could bet both the purchase price and the value of your mortgage on the fact that other drivers will chase you to the gas station and tailgate you on the highway. just trying to get a closer look at this rarer-than-a-Ferrari street rod. A Little History

What's in a Name?

Mangusta. Italian for mongoose. was the name de Tomaso gave in 1966 to an earlier version he built to compete with another exotic Ford-powered sports car of the era. the Shelby Cobra.
