Reluctantly I have made the decision to sell my Porsche 911 to help finance an impending property purchase. Over the last 3 years it has undergone extensive restoration. but there are a few jobs that require finishing. Time is not on my side. so I thought I'd see if anyone would be interested in buying it now.
Its a 1973. 5 Porsche 911 2. 4T with CIS fuel injection. this is rare car and was only produced for 6 months before the 'Big Bumper' cars were introduced. The chassis number is 9113111750 and the engine numer is 6136034. so matching engine/chassis numbers. Its finished in the original Porsche colour 415 Sepia Brown and has its original black interior. This car was imported from California. so was a virtually rust free car and all the original steel panels have been reused during the restoration. The milage is showing 117. 31 miles and there are some invoices from the US showing that the bottom end of the engine has had the crank re-ground. new piston rings and rebuilt in 1993. Other invoices show valves and guides. so head work has also been carried out. The car ran when I purchased it. was complete and very original. but I decided it needed to be totally stripped and restored.
Body - all the structual parts were rust free. parcel shelf. seat backs and bases were also perfect. The floor pans had a few holes. so rather than patch them up they were completely replaced. The RH lower A-post has been replaced due to rust. as have both B posts. The rest of the shell was chemicaly stripped and found to be in great shape. All the removable panels were soda blasted. with only the rear of the lower front wings requiring repairs.  The underside was then stone chip protected before being finished in Sepia Brown. The paint work was carried out nearly 3 years ago. it does look great. however if you look very closely there are few imperfections mainly to the front and rear lids. most people don't notice but I have to mention this. So to sum up it looks great but its not concourse.
Exterior - the front and rear window seals are new. new quarter light seals. door to glass seals. new bonnet and engine lid seals. all the S-spec bumper and sill deco rubbers are new. The Targa roof and roof to body seals are all new and the top has been recovered. It has had a new front screen and chrome trim inserts. the rear screen is the original and also has new chrome inserts. The sill trims are new. but the rest of the chrome trim is the good and orginal and adds to the patina of the car. The rear PORSCHE script is new. the rest of the badges are original and in good condition. The wheels are new 15x5. 5 rims with new Yokohama AE-01 195/65r 15 tyres. all the light lenses and reflectors are new with the indicators having the correct black trim. A new wing mirror and aerial finish the exterior detailing.
Suspension/brakes - the suspension was removed. stripped and repainted. Then all new poly bushes were fitted front and rear. The track rod/ball joints are new and the rear shocks have been replace with new adjustable ones. All the brake lines are new teflon coated pipes. new hoses. new handbrake cables. new brake master cylinder. new discs all round. Calipers were ok so have been reused.
Mechanical - The engine was removed. stripped of all external parts which were then cleaned and repainted where needed. The cam and valve covers were checked and refited with new gaskets. as were the oil breather and injection manifolds. The exhaust and heat exchangers were all good so have been refitted with new gaskets. The Bosch CIS metering unit was found to be faulty. so it has been rebuilt at great expense. now works perfectly and has a warranty. The Bosch CDI unit was also faulty and has also been rebuilt and has a warranty. The alternator was tested on another 911 I had and charges perfectly. A new battery. new spark plugs. oil and filters. gearbox has had an oil change and the clutch was also good so reused. The petrol tank was professionally cleaned. mostly new fuel lines used and flushed through where they weren't.
Interior - the original front and rear seats. rear door cards. seat belts and carpets have been reused. They are not perfect. but are in good conditon and for me add to the character of the car. The sun visors are the original. the mirror on the passenger side is misty and the cover on the drivers side has a vey small part that has opened up on the seam. The targa headlining is the original velour one and is also in good condition. The front door cards have been made. the door pockets had unfortunatly gone. but the handles/arm rests are the originals. Both window winders are new. the dash dials are all good. one light gem is missing. the original steering wheel is still fitted and has a worn 70's rim cover. The end part to the indicator stalk is missing but it still works ok. You could easily retrim this car if you want perfection. but I think its better to keep it as is.
This car doesn't need much to finish now. but here is what is required.
The engine now runs but requires professionally setting up. I don't have the skills or equipment to do this and would need to book it in. The timing will need setting. injection setting up properly as it is set to a default setting at the moment. The valve clearances haven't been checked either. but it sounds sweet enough and revs up cleanly.
The indicators and hazzards all work. the brake lights work but the side lights front and rear don't. I think its the headlight switch so this needs looking at.  The brakes are bled and working but the calipers are sticking where it has been standing for so long. they will free up with use as they free with a light tap.
The LH door won't lock. I have ordered a new tumbler and key. it will come with the car.  The bonnet lower catch either needs a new spring or a replacement unit.
From experience this work shouldn't cost more than £1200 including any parts needed. The car will then fly through a UK MOT. it can then be registered which last time costs me £80 and is a very easy process but you do have to insure the car to do this. which is one of the reasons why I have chosen to sell at this stage. I have all the US papers. title. some history/invoices and import documentation showing all duties have been paid.
I am a big 911 fan and have owned several in the past. I have seen plenty of cars and this is comparable or better than many that I have seen advertised for over 40k. I see no reason why with the jobs completed and UK registered that I could achieve a top price and if the car is not sold that is what I shall do. I have set a realistic reserve reflecting the conditon and work required. opinions do vary. so you are very welcome to come and inspect the car. Overseas bidders are welcome and I can assist with transportation in the UK to ports if required.
This is a genuine sale. any questions please ask.
