The Porsche 911 Turbos (or 930s) had an almost mystical status back in the day.   They were considered fierce beasts that were difficult to tame and reserved for the elite few.   Now. nearly 30-years later. 930s have moved from an icon status to a true collectible.   DP (Design Plastiks) first caught the eye of Kremer Brothers Racing in the early 70’s.   Kremer hired DP to design and build the body for their 1975 K1 Prototype to run in the GT endurance series.   The car did so well that rumors had the car being a Porsche factory entry in disguise.   The combination of the aerodynamics and workmanship made it very convincing.   Kremer went on using DP to build other cars including the famous 1979 935 K3 LeMans winner.   With their racing success. DP began to develop and build custom 935 street cars for regular Porsche Carreras and Turbos.   They built these cars for about a decade.   Many of these cars cost nearly the cost of the original car just to modify.   Unfortunately. most of the DP produced cars never survived and very few examples remain today.

 

This example was a tourist delivery car at the end of 1987 as a 1988 model.   The car was then delivered to DP in Cologne. Germany for the complete modification package before being exported to the U. S.   Unfortunately. due to strict U. S. DOT laws. the car could not be delivered with the 935 front bumper but had to use the already approved factory bumper.   We believe the car was originally delivered to California. but we only have smog reports dating back to 1998 with 6. 00 miles.   The car was custom ordered from Porsche with the following equipment:

 

Cabriolet tonneau cover

Heated driver seat

Reno Blaupunkt radio

Locking differential (40%)

Leather sport seats (left and right)

Electric cabriolet top

Factory alarm system

Tourist delivery

 

The current owner is a local enthusiast in Beverly Hills and semi-professional racer.   He purchased the car in 2009 with 25. 00 miles from a dealership in the San Francisco area.   Upon receiving the car. he started going through all the mechanicals of the car.   He primarily enlisted the help of Vision Motorsports (one of the top independent Porsche specialists in Orange County).   The owner of Vision. Dwain Dement. was previously one of the managers of Andial.   All in all. this owner invested another $84. 00 making this special DP Turbo operate the way it was designed.   Highlights of some of the work done include:

 

New steering rack

HRE C70 3-piece wheels (9x17 and 11x17)

New Michelin Pilot Sport tires

New wheel bearings

New tonneau cover

Rebuild differential

Properly removed A/C (We have all the original A/C parts)

New front oil cooler and lines

Repaired wastegate

Billet axles

Upgraded aluminum interior pieces

Rebuild DP intercooler

Custom dual-out exhaust system

Corner balanced and aligned

Custom JL Audio stereo satellite system

Dyno-tuned to 375 rear wheel horsepower and 390 rear wheel torque

(this translates to 431hp and 449 lb ft torque)

 

The end result of all this work is simply magnificent.   It is one of the tightest and best driving Porsche Turbos I’ve ever driven.   Everything works as it should.   The power is insane.   This Turbo is certainly not for the faint of heart.   It takes both hands and full attention.   With 0-60 times recorded at the low 4. 0 second range. this is one of the quickest 25+ year old Porsches I’ve ever driven.

 

*Note: The owner just found the original "DP" steering wheel that was delivered with the car.   We installed and it really works well with the rest of the DP interior*

 

The exterior of the car appears to be very original the way it was delivered from DP back in 1988.   The original paint (as it left DP) is in very good shape.   There is some light cracking (due to age) on the left rear fender (see pic).   Also. the front spoiler has some cracks from an unfortunate steep driveway incident.   Estimate from local fiberglass/paint expert puts the repair at $900.   The soft top is in immaculate condition with no rips. tears. or wears marks.   The rear window is clear and the electric top operates smoothly.   The interior is exceptionally clean.   The two-tone leather interior is custom per DP.   The sport seats show very little wear.   The dash is straight with no cracks.   The carpet is also in excellent condition.

 

California registration is paid through August. 2014.
