Chassis number - 3972988Engine number - 3972988Just arrived here at TFC is this little Bavarian beauty. A bit of a change from our usual selection of Italian retro rally cars but nonetheless special enough to grace our ranks. This fabulous BMW 'Neue Klasse' 1602 Coupe has been lovingly prepared to Appendix 'K' regulations and in tarmac competition spec under homologation number 5117. The gorgeous lines of this 70s  BMW Coupe are bettered only by the sound emanating from the competition centre exit exhaust which pops and bangs away like all retro rally cars should. The paint has been given a refresh 2008 and it is now in fantastic condition. A nice set of period steel BMW wheels are furnished in Toyo R888 road legal semi slick tyres. Included is a full size spare. The bodywork and underside is rust free. Inside there is a heavy duty Sassa roll cage which means the rear bench seat is removed. being replaced by an OMP fire extinguisher.  A nice pair of Sparco Sprint seats and FIA harnesses secure you in place and offer great lateral support. It still retains the original dashboard with a splash of wood and nice BMW gauges.
The original chrome bumpers are included along with boxes of spares.
Turn the key and the lovely 1600cc OHV engine starts first time. idles perfectly while the induction noise from the twin 40 Webers is intoxicating. Prepared with Webers. Mahle pistons and big valves it revs freely and is brisk enough to trouble any competition in the 1600cc class. Continuing the competition theme. the suspension has been set up by Simoncini. an Italian firm specialising in rally shocks and springs. It provides a nice responsive feel without being spine shattering. This car would be a perfect entry into this year's historic rally or hill climb scene. Being an FE/RWD set up it is also ideal to be used as an interesting option on the drift circuit.
So to sum up; this BMW Coupe is a rare find indeed with 1602/2002 versions continuing to rise in value. With the added bonus of the car being prepared to full homologation spec our 1602 really is a great opportunity to acquire a rare car in fantastic condition. Original logbook stating all previous owners and service history from new.
