1966 Mercedes Benz 230 SL

 

 

 

Needing to replace its popular 190 and 300SL models. Mercedes Benz introduced its new sports car at the 1963 at the Geneva Auto Show. The W113 Chassis also called the 230 SL featured a 2. 3 liter inline 6 cylinder fuel injected engine. which was good for 150 horsepower. and a 140 ft-lbs of torque. Mercedes use of aluminum for the doors. trunk. and hood to save weight. and along with a wide track and shortened wheelbase made for a great handling sports car. One of the most iconic features of the new Roadster was the addition of the “Pagoda” hard top. giving you the sense of driving a coupe. when installed on the car. A very well insulated cloth soft top made the 230 SL a very easy to live with everyday roadster.

 

This well loved 230 SL was purchased by a service man in Belgium and brought back to the states. The second owner was located in Arizona whom the current owner purchased the car from in 1980.   The 230 had 59000 miles on it in 1980.

 

Yes. the car has had the same owner for the last 34 years!

 

The body is nice and straight and still wearing most of its original paint. The car shines up nice but with any original finish there are some blemishes but very presentable.

 

The chrome is in great shape showing no pitting as the car has been garage kept all of its life.

 

The under carraige is clean and virtually rust free! Very nice.

 

The interior is very luxurious with great door panles. nice seats. crack free dash pad and beautifull wood work.

 

The dash board looks like a work of art with the stylish gauges wrapped with chrome against the painted backround.

 

All of the electrical and gauges work as they should. even the electric antenna works. The radio has been upgraded but the original one is included with the car.

 

The convertible cloth is believed to be original. The hardtop is included as well.

 

This 230 SL is ready for the road! The motor runs great with plenty of power and very smooth.   The four speed gearbox shifts smooth and the clutch was replaced less than 1000 miles ago. The SL stops. turns and drives great and should bring the new owner many miles of carefree driving!

 

This roadster has been well taken care of over its life with regular trips to the Mercedes garage.   If it needed anything it was addressed.

 

All the original sales documentation and the maintenance records from new will stay with the car.
