Too many Opels and 1 has to go.

For sale is my early model year 1967 Opel Kadett Rallye 1. 1 SR which I purchased  in January 2009 with 53. 00 miles on it and have extensively gone through. It was a solid California car when I purchased it with minor rust on the lower rear quarters which I repaired professionally with correct patch panels from Splendid Parts in Germany. I do have photos of the entire restoration posted on OpelGT. com in my photos so you can see the original condition. as well as photos of floor pans. trunk floor and the very limited rust issues that were on the car.

I have receipts for all work and parts that went into bringing this car back to it's current condition. It's not perfect and I will get to a short list of things I would still take care of if I were to keep the car. Expense was not a consideration when I worked on the car. I would get the best parts available and did not cut corners. Here is a list of NOS or reproduction parts I used to refresh the Kadett.

NOS- Rear tail light housings and lenses. rear license lights and lenses. all front turn housings and lenses. both front parking light lenses and housings. NOS 1. 1 center joint complete assembly with housing. donut and bearing. NOS rear dual tip resonator as well as NOS front head pipe and center muffler. Rubbers on windshield. rear glass. quarter glass were all new repro rubber.

The front suspension was removed from the car. sand blasted and painted with POR 15 Chasis Saver paint. All new rubber bushings were installed (again- Splendid Parts in Germany provided most of the rubber parts- bushings. door rubber. window channel. radiator hoses etc). All new tie rods inner and outer and ball joints upper and lower as well as new bearings. calipers. rotors. pads. brake hoses. master cylinder. NOS brake booster. alternator. starter. water and fuel pump were installed as car was reassembled. The engine was removed from the car prior to painting so the engine bay as well as inside trunk were painted as well. New shocks andrubber brake lines were also installed. The fuel tank was in good shape when I bought the car but I lined inside the tank to prevent any issues down the road. The engine itself ran fine so except for a tune up and reinstalling the proper twin carb set up I had to do nothing to it. New clutch. pressure plate and bearing were of course used when the trans went back in. The trans shifts smoothly in all 4 gears plus reverse and synchros are in good shape so all upshifts and downshifts are smooth.

Body- The car had had 1 previous repaint and the body was sanded to bare metal or to the factory paint in most areas because that paint was still in good shape. The trunk floor had some surface rust which was treated with POR 15 but needed no metal replacement. Kadett patch panels replaced the minor rust on lower rear quarters. Floor pans. rockers. front fenders and valances were and are all rust free. Battery tray area had a previous repair with fiberglass and it was solid and looked decent so I did nothing there. The paint is the original Bamboo Yellow color which is correct for the car. Dupont base coat clear coat. There is one minor chip in the paint above right tail light I show in a picture which has been touched up.  Trunk had been closed before rubber seal or bumpers were in place. A pint of the paint used will come with the car in case you would ever need to spray a portion. There are no dents or other obvious defects to body or paint.  Blower motor was rebuilt and works properly.

Interior- I had the seat frames sandblasted then primered and painted the springs etc before having the seats professionally redone using all new paddings. burlap. nbsp;and covers. New headliner was installed as well as new carpeting professional installed. Dash pad is decent for being a 47 year old car but has some small cracks which I show in the pics. Door panels are in pretty good shape. Speedo. tach. warning lights. gas guage. volt meter. oil pressure all work and even the clock keeps time correctly (although if the car sits for months the clock tends to stop but set it and it keeps time again once you start the car). Wipers are 2 speed and work fine.

All directional and lights (including dash lights work as they should) and after cleaning the contacts on the fog light switch it now works and the fog lights operate again. Horn works- (it is a button on turn signal end) and dome light works as it should. I'm sure there are things I have passed over but this has to be one of the nicer Kadetts still around and I would not hesitate to drive this car cross country. If driven correctly the 1. 1 will actually cruise and give 40-50mpg. It is the original i. 1 SR engine (66 cubic inch!) People tell me their lawn mowers have bigger engines!

Now the issues I would address if I were keeping the car

Front lower left corner of windshield has cracks- they have not spread but obviously a new windshield would improve the car. The vent window rubber shows age but just recently those have become available thru a source in Germany for 99 euro for the pair. Even though the seats had been redone there is a small tear on the inner the side of the drivers seat which should be repairable since the vinyl is all new. If you don't know where it is you'd probably never see it. I have shown a picture of the 1 inch tear. If I were keeping the car I would probably replace the door weatherstripping. Even though it was new 4 years ago I was never real happy with how it fit even though it does seal. Also. the blower switch is NOS and there are new heater cables running from temp and defrost levers. but the tiny clamps that attach the cables to the levers have come loose so that is not working as it should now.

Paypal is accepted. Shipping is buyer's expense. I can help on this end or if buyer is shipping overseas I can help on this end.

The grille was also NOS from German E Bay as was the rear bumper. The front bumper as well as the 4 bumper guards are the originals and straight but do not have the shine that the new rear one has but really don't look bad. The headlight/parking lamp/ dash light/ wiper switches are NOS as well. The battery I keep in all my Opels are Optima Red Top so there is not a danger of further typical acid damage in the battery area. The radio is a vintage Blauplunkt AM/FM with a new speaker mounted correctly up in the top center of dash where it was when the car was new. No other speakers were installed in the car. The vintage spare tire still has the sticker on it. The rims on the car and spare are off a later model Opel (I just liked the sport style wheels better) and the tires on the car are in real good shape. There is a new small scissor jack in the box in the trunk with a socket and ratchet in the same box as I did not have the original jack or lug wrench. I contacted E Bay about the pictures being small and unable to be zoomed in on and was told I would need to cancel the ad and start a fresh ad with a different format of pictures. The car probably looks better in person than it does in the photos. There are not a lot of "waves" in the panels nor door dings etc that were painted over like you see on a lot of older cars. It is truly an amazingly straight. solid body.

The radiator was professionally recored and all new hoses and belt were installed during the restore. The car has a hand choke from the factory which works fine. Contact me for more and better pictures or you are welcome to come by by appointment to look it over and drive it.

Interested in the car, not your loans. People, I fear this is a phishing site to get emails for loan spam. Everyone beware!

is the car still for sale?

from Ben Streett, dated 30 may 2016
Hey,

I wanted to check and see if the Kadett was still available. I had one of these when I was just out of High School and I loved it. I went on opelgt.com but could not find the pictures and the ones on this page are too small to see. If the car is still available, can you send me some updated pics?

Thanks,
Ben Streett
