OVERVIEW:

This is a 1936 Ford Model 68 Deluxe Roadster with rumble seat. The present senior owner restored the car about 20 years ago. and since that time has driven it very few miles. The car has been kept in indoor heated storage with several other collector vehicles. and they. combined with our short summers in Alberta are the reason that they have all seen very few miles put on them. It sports a fiberglass body. doors. and rumble lid. The fenders. hood. and running boards are steel. Apart from having hydraulic brakes. all other aspects of this car are 1936 Ford.

The owner is a long time vintage car enthusiast and performed much of the restoration himself. with help from his son and car club friends. bringing in varied professional talent as required.

The few outings this car has been on were primarily local vintage car club tours and events. The car has recently been brought out of storage and given a quick clean up and servicing. It starts easily. sounds good. and runs nice. Some pics show areas still dusty from storage as it was not under a car cover. it would benefit greatly from a thorough cleaning. detailing. and a polish.

DRIVETRAIN:

The engine is a nice running 24-stud Ford flathead. It has few miles on it since outsourced for a professional rebuild.
Apart from modern plug wires. hose clamps. and a wire or two. everything under the hood appears period correct.
Belts. hoses. radiator. and wiring all appear to be in good condition.
The only thing needed under the hood appears to be a good clean up and detailing.

There are no signs of leakage under the engine or transmission.

CHASSIS:

The original frame and chassis was fully restored and painted black. The underside simply shows the road dust of its outings over the years and would clean up easily to fairly fresh once again.
All steering and suspension components were rebuilt as required with new parts.
The drum brake system was upgraded to hydraulic.
The exhaust system. pipes and muffler. still look new.

No signs of leakage from the rear differential or gas tank.

The tires are Firestone Deluxe Champion wide white wall 6. 00x16 bias plies with excellent tread remaining as they have hardly any miles on them. They are mounted on original pressed steel artillery wheels with drop centers. The centers are chrome plated with outer rims painted red. and they sport full stainless steel V8 logo hubcaps. The spare is a matching wheel and new tire also.

BODY & PAINT:

The fiberglass body. doors and trunk lid were acquired in new condition from a fellow club member along with the original frame. Hood. fenders and running boards are steel. The running boards are new and the hood and fenders are solid originals from our dry western climate here in Alberta.
Overall the car is quite straight. There is no evidence of any damage to any of the fiberglass. or rust on any of the metal.

The primary body color is a very nice Cherry Black metallic. with a red pin stripe. and the fenders are black. The car is painted in acrylic enamel and has never been polished. For the most part smooth and shiny. there is some ‘gun finish' in areas. A thorough wash and wax is called for. but with a good polishing and some detailing this car would look outstanding.

There are only a few very minor blemishes in the paint. like a dust spec here and there. overall its quite good. There is a small blister on the left hood. shown in the pic. This appeared some time ago and has not worsened over time.

ELECTRICAL:

The car retains its 6-volt electrical system and has new wiring. Original gauges include a nice speedometer. and the optional combination Oil/Fuel gauge. and Temp/Amp gauge. The original temp gauge does not work. a separate modern temp gauge has been added.

The original Philco radio is in working order. There is a separate power disconnect switch under the dash. It gets reception from the rare road antenna which is mounted under the driver side running board.
The original clock is not working.

Headlamps are originals in beautiful condition with nice lenses and chrome rings. Although intended. the owner had never got around to putting turn signals on the car.
Nice pair of accessory driving lamps.

INTERIOR & TOP:

The front and rumble seats are nicely upholstered in an appropriate looking pattern and material. as are the door and side panels. Doors have nice leather stop straps. and new door handles and escutcheons.

The dash has a woodgrain finish and the knobs are new. There is a new firewall panel.
The hand brake lever and shifter are chrome plated and the shifter sports an 8-ball knob.
The floor mat is custom molded rubber. The pedal pads are new along with new rumble seat step pads and mounting pads under the tail lamp stanchions.

The banjo steering wheel is in good condition with no cracks. but there is a crack across the bakelite ring surrounding the horn button.

The new canvas top is complete with side curtains and boot. It has an excellent fit. as does the boot when the top is down. There is a special dual compartment bag for stowing the side curtains in.
The first time the owner had ever installed the side curtains was for these pictures. The side curtain rods are new chrome.

The top bows are in beautiful condition. with nicely finished hardwood bows and chrome plated irons. They raise and lower easily with no binding.

BRIGHTWORK:

Most all brightwork on the car is show quality. Both bumpers and the guards are re-chromed originals and are in very nice condition with red stripes. The grille is beautiful behind an accessory grille guard. and is topped off with an excellent V8 hood ornament and the optional leaping greyhound.

Headlight buckets have nice chrome rings. The chrome driving lamps and horn grilles are also in excellent condition.
Hood stainless moldings are very nice.
The windshield frame and stanchions have very nice chrome as well. There are twin outside stainless door mirrors.
The dual windshield wipers are vacuum operated and somewhat sluggish.

Stainless edge moldings along the running boards are in good shape. and there are new aluminum V8 logo sill step plates when you open the doors.

All wheels have nice chrome and stainless hubcaps.
The rear spare tire metal cover has a nice chrome outer ring. The hubcap on the spare has a couple of small dings and is about the only piece of brightwork on the car with any issues.
The tail lights are twin stainless with new lenses.

SUMMARY:

If top down cruising in a sporty mid 30's Ford ragtop turns your crank. then this desirable little roadster could be it! It has had the major work done. and gone just far enough to break it in. It is not a concourse trailer queen. but it is a car you can start to enjoy right away. and leaves you with the opportunity to detail and improve it over time.

The years of life are stacking up. and with diminishing eyesight. the owner is no longer able to enjoy or maintain his cars in the manner he'd like. so he has decided to disperse his collection.
