Presented here is my stunning 1985 Porsche 911 Convertible - an appreciating. classic sports car.  This particular vehicle has been fastidiously taken care of. comes with a completely documented history. and includes extensive maintenance records.  This is. without a doubt. an extremely rare car in all aspects - year. mileage. and condition.   According to the book. nbsp;Porsche 911 3. 2 Carrera: The Last of the Evolution. there were only 990 convertibles produced for the US and Canadian market for 1985 - which makes this model even more desirable. As with any classic car originality is key. and this vehicle is 100% how it came out of the factory in Zuffenhausen.  This 911 wears original paint on every panel. still has it's Sigla windshield (made in W. Germany). and it's factory Blaupunkt Monterey radio.  Please keep reading as I will try to detail the car as much as possible.


History

I spoke to the first owner in great length before purchasing.  Here is what I can tell you.  When the 911 convertible came out in 1983. the original purchaser knew that he wanted the (then new) 911 convertible.  In 1983 he ordered a 1984 Porsche 911 convertible.  He knew that he wanted a combination of a white exterior and a blue interior. he ending up custom ordering a 1984 Chiffon White on Dark Blue 911 convertible with European delivery.  After paying for the deposit. he chose a date for delivery of his vehicle - September 6. 1984.  While waiting for production. the West German metal workers union went on strike causing a delay in production.  Porsche notified him via a telegram stating that they will be unsure when production will resume.  This delay in production forced the order to be backlogged until 1985.  He went back to the dealership when production resumed to place another custom order for his dream 911.  This time he chose a Grand Prix White exterior with a blue full leather interior.  Intriguing is the fact that ordered 15" forged Fuchs wheels and decided to eliminate the Carrera script on the rear engine lid - two very rare options. Total price: $41. 33. In the summer of 1985. he went directly to the Porsche factory in Zuffenhausen. Stuttgart. Germany for European delivery of his 1985 Porsche 911 Cabriolet.  After driving it through the Swiss Alps and enjoying the car thoroughly. he came back to the US and waited for his beloved 911 to return to the US.  It has since then resided in the USA.  Included with the sale are the official delay telegram. original cash deposit receipt. copy of the original Rhode Island title. and original tax documents.  

Vehicle was originally sold on March 4. 1985 Cash deposit slip from 1985 along with copy of first original title included Original purchaser opted for European Delivery and picked up the car at the Porsche factory Owner first bought while living in Rhode Island - then moved to Minnesota.  I bought in Minnesota and moved to California brining the car with me. Exterior

This 1985 Porsche 911 Cabriolet is finished off in color code L908 - Grand Prix White.  As the pictures will show. exterior is in remarkable condition especially for a vehicle that is nearing 30 years of age.  After an extensive inspection. it was found to have original paint on all the panels. The paint has a nice shine. and doesn't show  it's age.  There are no noteworthy dents anywhere.  The windshield is the original Sigla brand with integrated antenna and all of the other glass on the car is original.  All of the exterior rubber is still nice and supple.  The convertible top is original and in very good condition. and the rear plastic window is exceptionally clear.  The roof is manually operated and all of the mechanisms function correctly.  The tonneau cover for the convertible top is original and in excellent condition as well.  The lights and lenses on the entire car are like new and are not stained. leaking. or discolored. Wheels are the rare 15 inch forged and staggered Fuchs.  The combination of white with a blue top and blue interior is definitely gorgeous.

Interior

The interior is finished off in dark blue.  The interior features blue carpet. seats. dash top/bottom. and door panels.  The interior is optioned in full leather so the dash. door panels. door panel tops. and seats are completely leather.  All of the leather on the interior is original.  The seats are in very good condition and the leather is still soft and supple.  The leather dash is only showing minor warping - usual for dashboards with leather.  The steering wheel is not showing any discoloration or any abnormal wear.  The vehicle has never been smoked in and there aren't any odors.  The interior still features the original carpet. There are new Lloyd mats on the interior to protect the original carpet.  

The interior has all of the original seat belts without any fraying.  The original radio is present (Blaupunkt Monterey).  All of gauges are in excellent condition and feature bright needles.  The A/C. heat. cruise control. and radio are completely functional.  All of the electronics on the interior are functioning correctly.

Mechanics

A full history and careful ownership has kept this car in top mechanical condition.  The engine starts up without hesitation. doesn't smoke. and doesn't leak anything. The oil pressure is excellent and the engine operates at normal temperatures at all times. The power delivery is responsive with a highly linear curve.  The transmission shifts smoothly without any grinding. and the car is never shifted into first gear when in motion as recommend by Porsche mechanics.  The clutch pedal is soft and grips effortlessly.  The engine and transmission allow you to drive comfortably and without hesitation.   

The suspension is very smooth and doesn't rattle or creak going over any bumps.  Coupled with the 15 inch Fuchs wheels. the ride is more comfortable than on your average 911.  Tires are all Michelin and matching with correct wear.  The brakes are newer and stop this 911 excellently.  The brake pedal is stiff and that makes progressive braking very easy.  The underneath of the engine and the engine bay are very nice.
