Jean's birthday was the 26th December so perhaps GXM52 was a Christmas Gift? The car remained with the family until August 1959 when John' son (also John) sold the 25/30 in order to purchase a 1952 Silver Wraith. John Arthur Jefferson was the son of a prominent West Bromwich businessman (Frederick Thomas Jefferson of Kendrick & Jefferson Printers). in 1906 John Jefferson joined the Britannic Assurance as Assistant Secretary & by 1916 was appointed General Manager making Chairman in 1924. He was a keen athlete & when resident in London he captained Rosslyn Park in played for Middlesex at Rugby Football. His family home “Parkfield” was a fine Victorian Manor in the wealthy area of Dorridge nicknamed the “Dorridge Triangle”. In 1956 to commemorate his 50 years of service the staff paid for the famous artist Frank Salisbury to paint a portrait of J. A. Jefferson – sitters for Frank Salisbury included HM QEII. Churchill. Kellogg. Burton and the American Industrialists - Pierpoint-Morgan. Rockefeller & Carnegie. J. A. Jefferson was a founding member of the Denarius Dining Club which meets some 4 times a year at the Army & Navy Club in Pall Mall. A Denarius was a small silver coin weighing approximately 4. 5gms first minted by the Romans circa 211BC. Even today. there are some areas in North Africa. Europe & Arabia that have a coin called the Dinar (the word means to give).
