TVR 1800S V8 (Grantura) 1965. The Old Dame for sale
Current customer rating: (603 votes ) based onFitted from new with a 2. 5 Daimler V8 and close ratio gearbox.
The first photo shows the car before restoration started. The others show the standard of the work carried out and the pic with the engine installed shows the mechanical stage it has reached now. The bodywork is back on the chassis and is ready for the nice original paintwork to be refreshed (very little bodywork required) and final assembly. Everything is with the car. boxed and labelled.
Stainless steel custom exhaust system and custom fuel tank etc. Almost new laminated windscreen and perfect lightweight vented rear screen.
This is a very straightforward project. all mechanical work has been done. Daimler V8 engine totally rebuilt and converted to unleaded. Close ratio Vauxhall Ventura 3. 3 close ratio rebuilt and factory fitted uprated TR4a reconditioned. All suspension(fully adjustable). brakes. steering etc fully rebuilt and fitted so a COMPLETE fully refurbished rolling chassis. Fitted with period Cobra slot alloy wheels and good tyres.
Last journey before restoration was from John o. Groats to Lands End . 50+ miles in 1 day without using any motorways.
Could be converted to replica TVR Griffith 400 with Ford 289V8 and gearbox. I just happen to have a fully rebuilt 1965 Hipo FIA eligible engine and T10 gearbox sitting on the floor next to it ( £6450 with or without the car) .
Another possibility is to convert the car to 1800cc MGB engine and make it eligible for historic FIA international racing in which these cars are very successful. All the right paperwork and a genuine 65-5. **** chassis number.
I could write a book about this car. in fact it does have a VERY comprehensive workshop manual for this specific car with engineering drawings etc. a work of art in itself and the subject of 2 years work.
I am not keen on email tennis so preferred buyer will have a telephone and money. Talking is the "Classic" way to communicate and I can give you far more information than by 1 fingered typing.
I have 45+ years TVR experience but due to serious change in my life circumstances this is a rare opportunity.
Completed cars are worth £35000+ without the provenance of this car. Even total restoration early torsion bar vars are changing hands for £15000 and they drive like a wardrobe compared to an 1800S 07831 389500 sTeVeR. Relisted and drastically reduced due to dreamers and timewasters. I have had several offers for the engine and gearbox and as many for the "identity". adding up to more than I am asking for the complete car. In my opinion that would be rape and pillage and should never happen to a historically important car. It is wrong in so many ways. However I need to move on so if thats how it has to be then thats how it has to be.
