The Ford Zephyr and its variant. the Zodiac. were the largest
passenger cars in the British Ford range and were manufactured from
1950 through to 1972. The Zodiac was an upmarket version of the
Zephyr 6. but differed considerably from that model by the
limousine-type rear doors. sharper roofline (with narrower
C-pillar). unique grill (four headlights instead of two). plusher
seating with up-market upholstery. dashboard and interior fittings.
A choice of individual or bench front seat was available; the front
doors and bonnet panels were shared with the Zephyr 6. The 2553cc
single-carburettor six-cylinder engine was improved internally to
increase the power output to 109bhp. hence the brakes were uprated
and were servo assisted. using discs at the front and drums at the
rear. A Mk. III saloon tested by 'The Motor' magazine in 1962 had a
top speed of 100. 7mph and cost £1070 on the road including
taxes.

This delightful automatic Zodiac Mk. III was supplied by The Central
Motor Company in Leicester and was first registered on 24th
September 1964. Clearly. restoration work has been carried out on
BRY508B at some stage. although this appears to have been done to a
good standard. When viewed. the straight-six engine started from
cold immediately and the car is described by the vendor as being
'nostalgic and fun' to drive. The white coachwork is in good order
and the interior trim virtually unmarked; even the huge front bench
seat adjusts with ease. This Zodiac comes supplied with a V5
registration document and an MoT test certificate valid until 13th
June 2014. together with the original service book. Classic Fords
have been well received at auction of late; this 50 year old
example will be no exception.
