Vehicle Condition and more details
Up for auction is my 1956 Ford 406. This car was owned and built by a North Georgia Old School Hot Rodder that has been building and racing Hot Rods since the 50's. One of his best friends in the world is the legendary NASCAR legend Junior Johnson. The only reason that I am telling you this is so that you understand that this car is a true “professional” built and real deal car built with true old school high performance parts & basically built by Hot Rod legends!
This car is very fast and dependable. drives tight and is a magnet for attention. In a sea of classic cars. how many 56 Fords done in the old school style do you find?
Cosmetics
The body & paint are beautiful. It is hard to believe that this car was painted around 1999 but it was. Honestly the car looks like it was just painted. The car is very solid. The body panels are as straight as a gun barrel and the gaps on the doors. hood. and trunk are basically perfect. The black paint is PPG base/clear and it looks like it is 4 foot deep. The floor boards have been repaired. probably due to the old rubber mat. but they are nice done and completely covered by 70mil sound mat. It has been polished and buffed to a mirror finish and the chrome. and bright work is original and not perfect but real good. The wheels are a set of old school Americans with radial tires.
The bumpers are near show quality. The other trim is in good condition.
The interior is the original gray color. in the correct factory pattern. Aftermarket front and rear seat belts. Very nice headliner and trim. Period correct gauges. Sun tachometer and Am-FM radio. Vintage style under dash fan.
Mechanical
Engine runs great. no problems or funny noises. The distributor has an MSD electronic control. The carbs are properly tuned. the motor runs great and is very fast. The toploader four speed works great. in fact I just installed a complete NOS Hurst shifter. (try to find one of these for this transmission. not cheap). for precise shifts. (the original Ford toploader four speed shifter will go with the car. but needs to be rebuilt)
The engine runs very strong and fast. No bad fluid leaks. no smoking. no overheating. The cooling system has a flex fan with an electrical auxiliary fan mounted on the radiator.
Transmission shifts smooth – and correct.
Steering is straight and solid.
The brakes are Power Disc/Drum type and work correctly and stops the car on a dime.
All fluids have been changed and are fresh.
The alternator is a MSD aluminum and Motorcraft Battery
The exhaust is factory style dual exhaust 2 ½ inch and in excellent shape.
The suspension has over size sway bars front and rear. I also installed a NOS Traction Master rear bar setup. No wheel hop. it just plants the tires and goes!
Overview
This is a great example of a stock appearing 56 Ford. with roots to the days of back road racers and moon runners. with the sought after four speed and multi carb big block. It will make someone a proud owner. You won't be able to wait to show it off. I receive compliments each and every time I take it out! It drives very nice. no rattles or noises. Very tight indeed! Everything I can think of works correctly. including the emergency brake. lights. wipers. horn. etc. Great investment too as these cars are the ones to collect and are rising in value every day.
I have many photos. so if you do not see the view you want. just ask. This car is a pleasure to drive. It is a very nice driving hot rod. The car sounds aggressive and draws a lot of attention whenever I drive it. I am sure I have forgotten something. so if you do not see what you want in the photos or description please ask. I desire the new owner to be completely comfortable with their decision. I have a reserve. set to the quality of this car. and will not disclose it. Just bid what you are prepared to spend.
Look at my feedback; whenever I sell something on Ebay I try to be as detailed as I can. giving you a factual description to the best of my knowledge. I have never sold a collector car where the buyer was not satisfied! I am the private owner of this car. The title is in my name and the car is presently registered in Mississippi. I just recently purchased this car. but being a General Motors guy. I would rather stay with what I know. thus I am selling this neat old Ford to fund another interest.
