Alfa Romeo 1750 Spider Veloce 1970 RHD

The one to have. An achingly gorgeous spider. Battista Pininfarina's last design. in ultimate round tail 1750. right hand drive configuration. just run-in after a major overhaul with £10. 00 of receipts. Large history file and extremely rare factory hardtop. ready for immediate enjoyment.

History of this car

The Alfa Romeo historical archive states our spider was a late production example made in February 1970 and sold new the same month to Alfa Romeo USA. in Newark. New Jersey. finished in Farina red paint with a black interior. the same combination it wears today. The car was imported into the UK in 1990 by a lady. who had the car converted to UK specification. i. e right hand drive. headlight conversion with Carello perspex covers and twin Dellorto 40 carburettors instead of the Spica injection. Euro badging completed the high level professional transformation received. Mileage recorded today is 36450 miles. which could easily be genuine but we have no means of verifying this. Since importation. the spider has had 4 UK owners who have substantially improved the car to today's superior level; of the 30 or so round tail 1750 spiders on UK roads. this must be one of the best unrestored examples.

Body

This is a dry. accident and rust free car that presents strongly. The sides are straight and ripple free with perfect door shuts and finishes in the boot area such as the fuel tank and spare wheel well are factory fresh. The car benefits from Dinitrol rust proofing. The Farina red paint is an older quality repaint holding up well. with even colour and no orange peel or sinkage. and no rust blisters. The glass is undamaged as is the stainless trim. and bumpers and grille are in fine condition (not a given with this model). The wheels have just been stove enamelled. are well shod with correct profile/size rubber and finished off with a fresh set of hub caps. The hood is good. unfaded with a clear rear screen and it does not leak. There is a new. original type hood bag fitted. An extremely rare and valuable Pininfarina hardtop accompanies the car. This too is in very good condition.

Mechanics

The spider is a hoot to drive. With significant mechanical expenditure with all the right people. it's no surprise this car drives without fault. The engine was completely rebuilt only 2000miles ago with all new pistons and liners. oil pump. big end bearings. timing chain and all new seals and gaskets. It displays perfect oil pressure and is leak free. and we have just replaced the oil. The starter motor is also new. The gearbox was removed at the time of the engine overhaul and rebuilt with a new 2nd gear and new synchro rings and sleeves. Unsurprisingly. it performs without fault with unbeatable syncromesh and it doesn't jump out of reverse gear as most of these cars do. The brakes have also been rebuilt with a new master cylinder and discs/pads and suspension bushes have been replaced. Expertly set-up. it starts on the button and is a quick. responsive car in a way only a good 1750 Giulia can be. The under bonnet is nicely detailed with many new hoses and clips. the only departure from original being the Pipercross air filter. a discreet modification which makes for fantastic induction noise! The MOT expires on 30. 4. 14 and the car will be sold with a new MOT at time of sale.

Interior

This is in generally excellent condition with undamaged seats. perfect rubber matting. good carpets. perfect door cards and an uncracked dash top. All gauges work and a nice touch is the original key fob. which are so rare to find.

Boot

Very clean with original rubber matting. spare wheel including tie down. the rarely found original Battaini jack and a toolkit.

Summary

With restored examples of this iconic car making in excess of £70. 00 at auction the value of this rare car is only going one way. Buy this beautiful looking and driving example whilst you still can at only £27500. to include history folder. hardtop. spare keys. a tailor made indoor car cover and rare original owner's manual and key fob.
