Description

1972 Ford Bronco

The idea behind the Bronco began with Ford product manager Donald N. Frey in the early 1960's, (who also conceived the Ford Mustang), and engineered by Ford engineer Paul G. Axelrad, with Lee Iacocca approving the final model for production in February 1964, after the first clay models were built in mid-1963. Developed as an off-road vehicle, (ORV), the Bronco was intended as a competitor for the Jeep CJ-5, International Harvester Scout and Toyota Land Cruiser. Today a compact SUV in terms of size, Ford marketing shows a very early example of promoting a civilian off-roader as a "Sports Utility", (the two-door pickup version).

For consignment, a 1st generation 1972 Ford Bronco, restored mostly on the bottom end, but also a silver respray is in stain finish and covers virtually every aspect of this truck. A white bucket and bench interior, and more gray tones throughout for the inside I'm seeing 50 shades of gray. Hi OHHHHH Silver! Giddyup...

Exterior
From the front grille past the fiberglass bumped steel hood to the passenger compartment covering to the rear its all matte finish in silver. Like a Kennedy dollar coin, it has a nice matte sheen, not too dull and not too shiny. Panels are straight with well minded gaps; bumpers are painted silver and a black FORD badge rests on the tailgate denoting the manufacturer. Other badging is chromed and looks good. Some overspray is noted on the door sills, and a bit of light bubbling in the finish near the hinge for the front windshield. The cap is in good condition and in tandem with the rear tailgate the upper glass framed hinged back door can also be lifted for easy access. 15-inch black painted wheels are wrapped by all terrain rubber around which have just been put on. Grab your gear and let's go for a climb.

Interior
Swinging the nicely restored doors we now see silver panes with a slightly lighter silver insert. Here is where the cranks and armrest with inset actuator are housed. Inside a brushed aluminum panel fronts the dash and houses a large round instrument gauge cluster to drivers left, and some pulls and knobs as well as ignition on drivers right. An AM radio is mounted centrally in the dash, and an ashtray speaker and glovebox are residing here too. On top is a black padded vinyl covered dash top with no cracks or fading. Black indoor-outdoor carpeting covers the floors from the white buckets to the back of the vehicle. In front is a durable rubber. Slight rust is seen on the seat mounts. The white buckets present nicely with just some slight soiling. Low backs and a matching bench is in the back. Interestingly some maroon is showing up on the inside rear wheel wells as well as below the seats supporting the floor pans. A silver metal ribbed with structural steel headliner is above and some white sun visors are showing up above the tilt down windshield. A T shift lever is chromed and on the hump and a slightly large steering wheel in black fronts the dash and is assumed to be original to this truck. Saddle up!

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 302ci V8. It has been detailed and has blue valve coverings, a blue air cleaner covering, and blue painted water pump. It is topped with a 2-barrel carburetor and backed up by a 3- speed manual transmission with a Ford 9 inch 4.11 gear rear axle. Give it a kick in the sides with your spurs.

Undercarriage
As the consigner stated his first project was the bottom end and it is snazzy. All painted nice black and totally rust free, no runs, drips, or errors under here. Radius arm and coil springs for the front suspension, and on back leaf springs for the back. Drum brakes are on all 4 corners, and a glass pack style exhaust nice and clean and certainly rust free is on.

Drive-Ability
A quick starter, and smooth runner for sure. You can get a bit goosey with your boot and get 'er going pretty good. A good gallop, and a push in the brakes and there is plenty of woah factor! Seats are comfy and all is in working order. A hard pull on the reins yielded a strong pull to the left on the panic stop.

Silver and gray, is the key to this Bronco. A beautifully restored undercarriage, all buttoned up powertrain, and nicely redone interior, and all the bases are covered, fence posts mended, and you are free to let the world's horses roam the well...wild!
