Delivered to Mrs. Kruse (American heiress - Kane Hotel Chain) whose British husband was Jack Kruse (Banking heir). GMU72 was the last Rolls-Royce that they purchased. between 1924 & 1933 they owned 19 Rolls-Royce cars; but their finances had been affected by the Wall Street crash. Shortly after taking delivery of GMU72 the Kruses sold one of their properties “Sunning House” to Lord Rothermere (it was rumoured that the house for one of his lady friends!) Fourteen months later GMU72 had also been sold to Douglas Fairbanks Snr who at that stage was residing in London at Park Lane; 1934 was the same year that he starred in his last movie – “The Private Life of Don Juan”. in 1933 he had separated from his wife. actress Mary Pickford with their divorce was made final in 1936. His London address was later the home of John G. Winant. the United States Ambassador (1941/46). In December 1934 GMU72 was with the Hon Mrs. Rosemary Kayser whose home. “The Springs” (named after the 7 springs that feed the pond) had been built in 1874 by Sir Alexander Stephens & is acknowledged as being one of the first houses to be built in the mock Tudor Style. “The Springs” became a popular weekend residence for diplomats & royalty inc the Prince of Wales (King Edward VIII). Rosemary's father-in-law was Lt. Col. Frank Keyser(also spelt Kayser) (Kayser Ellison & Co Steel Manufacturers) who alongside Harvey du Cros (Dunlop Rubber) had in 1906 provided finance for Herbert Austin & his company. Rosemary's father - W. Walker. 1st Baron of Wavertree was a keen horseman & in 1916 he presented his stud of horses & mares to the nation so that a national stud could be formed. Rosemary's husband Charles Lionel Kayser died as a result of being electrocuted by a faulty heated shaving mirror! In 1948 GMU72 was residing in the village of Medmenham – the location of Francis Dashwood's infamous Hellfire Club (the name given to exclusive clubs for high society rakes in Britain & Ireland during the 18th Century). The Cistercian Abbey at Medmenham was founded in the 12th Century & in 1547 at the Dissolution of the Monasteries the abbey was seized & given to the Moore family. they later sold it to the Duffields who in 1751 leased it to Sir Francis Dashwood. 15th Baron le DeSpencer prior to his buying the abbey in 1755. Sir Francis had numerous works done on the building by Nicholas Revett & under the Abbey he had a series of caves carved out & decorated with mythological & pagan themes! In the 1960s GMU72 had been bought by Wing Commander Hattrick who had been graded as a Pilot Office in March 1939 just prior to the outbreak of WWII.
