The bodywork featured large fender flares to accommodate widened Fuchs forged alloy wheels, and there was a rubber front air dam and a broad “whale-tail” rear spoiler that was a development of the iconic “ducktail” that first appeared on the '73 Carrera RS. The Type 930 was powered by a potent three-liter, air-cooled, six-cylinder engine fitted with a single KKK turbocharger delivering 245 horsepower at a maximum of 11.5 pounds of boost, even when fitted with mandatory emissions equipment for the US market. A four-speed manual transaxle with wide ratios was deemed appropriate to handle the Turbo's 253 foot-pounds of torque and carry this amazing new sports car to a maximum speed of more than 155 mph. Large four-wheel ventilated disc brakes could haul the Turbo down safely from any speed. This late-1976 production Turbo Carrera is one of just 530 J-Series US-specification examples constructed, and there is little question that it is one of the finest in the world. It is believed to be one of only three 1976 Turbos delivered in special-order Platinum Metallic/W1 paint. with black anodized window trim and the only example in that color to be fitted with cinnamon leather interior. The 1976 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera featured here is finished in its stunning and highly desirable, factory correct color combination of Platinum Metallic over impeccably kept Cinnamon leather interior. This extraordinarily well-preserved Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera offered here is the 232nd example of a 530-car model run for the 1976 Porsche model year (the most desireable model year). It hails from a 30-year long-term ownership of a lifelong Porsche Club of America member who meticulously maintained this example. Displaying just under 36,000 actual miles, this first U.S. production year 930 Turbo Carrera is a rare find and was subject to a comprehensive service, including an engine rebuild and the fitment of a new clutch around 300 miles ago!
