1974 Mini Clubman 998CC, 54.002 miles. One owner for over 40 years.

Bought used in March 1981 by the last owner and prior to this the car had 3 owners. The car was driven regularly until 1986 when it was effectively mothballed in the garage at the family home.

It is evident that the car was originally Ziebarted and in addition Waxoil was applied extensively prior to storage and the engine bay and boot area painted with Hammerite, all helping to preserve the car body and subframes. There appears to be no perforation which is rare for a Mini approaching 50. The exception being the door bottoms which will need remedial attention. The paintwork is certainly patinated and would need a respray.

The engine now runs sweetly and starts first time. The following was done to achieve this: New plugs, leads and a coil fitted, fuel tank cleaned out, fresh fuel, carburettor and mechanical fuel pump thoroughly cleaned.

The brakes and clutch will need attention however, due to time spent sitting.

During the time that the owner used the car he fitted various accessories as follows, all of which were purchased new between 1981 and 1983.

Mechanical:

·       Stage 2 cylinder head

·       Cooper S LCB exhaust manifold

·       Peco rear silencer – twin pipe

·       Intermediate Cooper exhaust pipe

·       1 ½” SU Carb

·       Polished alloy rocker cover

·       K&N air filter

Exterior:

·       GB Minilite alloys including 5th in spare (unused)

·       Vinyl roof

·       Paddy Hopkirk wing mirrors (supplied with the seats as promotional offer)

·       Bee-sting roof aerial

·       ‘Chequered flag' wheel arch and sill trim

Interior:

·       Paddy Hopkirk bucket seats – both retaining their gold badges

·       Mountney leather steering wheel

·       Walnut wood dashboard including glovebox and 4 door cappings, wooden gear knob

·       Centre console with additional gauges, Rev counter, Oil pressure gauge and Voltmeter.

·       Sharp radio cassette

·       Rear side arm rests incorporating Pioneer 4” speakers

The car is a one off, rich with in-period fitted accessories, the interior being something to behold and probably impossible to recreate now. The power plant being a 998 Cooper S in all but name and a considerable cost to create at today's prices.

A wonderful winter project and eligible for category 60-75 Historic Rallying too.

I am based 10 minutes from Junction 9, M3
