1965 Jaguar MK II / MK2 3.4 Manual - 51k Miles From New - Exceptional Condition for sale
Current customer rating: (343 votes ) based onWhilst it's easy to find a Mk2 that has been restored – to varying standards – it's extremely hard to come across a rust free original car that has never been welded or had replacement panels. So we were very excited to find this car.
Sold new by Jaguar dealers. Steels of Hereford. our Mk2 has had just four owners from new and covered just 51k miles. It retains its original colour scheme of dark blue paintwork with a pale blue leather interior and. bar one high quality external repaint. is entirely original. Unlike all but the very best restored cars. the panel fit and shut lines are spot on. just as it left the factory. and the flanks are arrow straight. The paint finish is superb and the chrome trim is virtually unmarked.
The Jaguar wears attractive body-coloured painted wire wheels. shod with a new set of Vredestein Sprint Classic radial tyres.
Inside. we feel this Mk2 is far nicer than any freshly trimmed example. It smells gorgeous and it feels correct because. aside from the Moto Lita steering wheel (the original comes with the car). it is all original and in superb condition with negligible wear. commensurate with the car's mileage.
Inside the boot the paintwork and boot mat are original and in good order. and it was a pleasure to discover that the toolkit is complete – a rarity!
The engine is the original ‘matching numbers' unit. The 3. 4-litre was always said to be sweeter than the 3. 8 and this engine is certainly sweet; firing instantly. running smoothly and quietly with very good oil pressure and fantastic performance.
Whilst the picture we've painted so far is of an extremely original example. this car has had some very desirable yet completely reversible upgrades to counter the model's known weaknesses of heavy steering. a difficult gearbox and inadequate brakes.
The gearbox has been upgraded to a five-speed unit using a conversion from Realm Engineering (though the original manual/overdrive gearbox comes with the car). the brakes have been upgraded to Zeus four-piston calipers. and the steering benefits from an electric power steering conversion.
The result is a Mk2 that stops. steers and changes gear with ease. allowing the driver to get on with the job of enjoying the car and its performance.
We have a heritage certificate. all the factory handbooks and literature along with a substantial service and ownership history.
We feel that a Mk2 that has evidently been cossetted from new. escaped the ravages of rust and remained in superb condition with a few well-chosen upgrades is a rare and desirable thing.
