Jaguar S-Type Metropolitain Police Area Car 1967 for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.15) based on 69 votes
For Sale:Genuine Metropolitan Police area car from 1967, fully returned to service condition with all working equipment, including blue light, two-tone horns, roof-mounted floodlights, Winkworth bell and radio (decommissioned).SUU409F, Fleet number 1809, was one of about 110 cars of the third large order by the Metropolitan Police from Jaguar Cars for specially-equipped vehicles for use in London in 1967.These cars differed from production models in well over 200 ways, resulting in uniquely specified vehicles, tailored for use for police purposes. While these differences are too numerous to mention here, they included a Dana 4.09 limited-slip differential ("town diff"), upgraded electrics, no tachometer, and very basic trim. All of these cars left the factory as 3.4 litre models, but many were changed to 3.8 litre, as and when new engines were required, which was very often, due to the rigours of police work.It has been estimated that 27% of these cars were written-off in service. The black cars were "Area Cars", posted to police stations, while the white cars were "Traffic Cars" used for traffic patrol work, and based at Traffic Garages across the Metropolitan Police District. All the Area Cars were automatics, while all the Traffic Cars were manual with no overdrive fitted. None of these cars had power steering.SUU409F has a 3.8 litre engine fitted. The automatic gearbox has been changed to a manual all-synchromesh unit, with overdrive, and the very low-ratio differential has been swapped for a 3.54 LSD, giving very relaxed cruising indeed, together with greatly improved economy. The car was purchased by the previous owner in 2010 and the restoration was completed in 2014. The restoration was done to a good standard throughout and the car presents very well although not to a concourse standard. At the time of restoration the engine was rebuilt with 9-1 compression pistons, coopercraft front brakes are fitted for improved braking performance. The engine is very powerful and has excellent oil pressure, however it did have a very small engine knock. We dropped the front subframe out and removed the sump to inspect the big ends. Some wear was found on number 6, the crankshaft was cleaned and lightly polished and a new set of +10 bearings were fitted. Since then the car has only covered around 60 miles, so please bear in mind the engine will need gently running in for at least another 500 miles. We think this issue was minimal and the journal will be fine. However obviously cannot guarantee it wont come back in future. At present the brake lights aren't working, but i suspect its just a bad connection on the fuse box so will try and get that sorted for the new owner.  There is a cd included in the history file with photographs of the restoration.Of a total of about 340 of these most unusual S-Type Jaguars ordered between 1966 and 1968, around 20 seem to have survived. Most of these 20 have had their original specification obliterated with the fitting of "civilian" trim and parts by subsequent owners over the last 50 plus years.SUU409F is one of just six cars in the UK which have been returned to service specification. It comes with it's Heritage Certificate, showing that it was sold directly to the Metropolitan Police, and represents a rare opportunity to acquire a genuine piece of Police and Jaguar history.Genuine reason for sale, my Sierra Cosworth requires an engine rebuild which is not a cheap process. If the Sierra hadn't have needed work then i would not be selling the car. These cars are so hard to find in any state let alone in full service condition. The car is located near Margate in Kent Cash on collection only pleaseMore pictures are available on requestFor any questions please give me a call on 07771113182 if i dont answer then please leave a message or text and i will get back to you.
