1968 Ford Fairlane for sale
Current customer rating: (46 votes ) based onLooking for a classic convertible in fantastic shape, but don't want to spend a fortune on a Mustang or a Galaxie? This is your chance!
This 1968 Ford Fairlane 500 convertible has been restored with great care and is in superb condition. It's a real head-turner - you just can't drive down the block or to the store without people coming up to compliment it. It's not a concours vehicle, but from 10 feet looks like a show-winner.
The paint, upholstery, carpet, and top were all done about six years ago, but still have the appearance of being new from just a short distance away. It's been garaged and/or covered since then. I have all receipts.
The 289 V8 starts right up and runs strong. The combination of the chrome Hedman headers and Flowmaster mufflers give it an aggressive, but not over-the-top exhaust note. The three-speed C4 automatic transmission shifts cleanly. As with a lot of these old Fords, there's a little slop in the column shifter, but it goes into gear easily and stays put. The cylinder heads are from a 302, which gives it a higher compression ratio than stock. That, coupled with the high-flow intake, upgraded 4-barrel Holley Dominator carburetor, long-tube headers, and a top-of-the-line Pertronix ignition system likely put the motor at about 275 horsepower, with just as many foot-pounds of torque. It's no monster, but will get up and go!
Power steering with a walnut Grant steering wheel and nearly-new steering components make this old baby handle surprisingly well. The front power disc upgrade conversion stops this Detroit steel on a dime.
There is well north of $35,000 invested in this car and I have the receipts to prove it. You get all the benefits of my labors without spending all the money!
The following repairs and improvements were completed between 2013 – 2015. The vehicle has less than 1,000 miles on it since then and has been garaged and/or covered the whole time.

New convertible top, motor, real back glass by the Convertible Top Man in Snellville. $4.2K

As with any 50+ year-old car (at least one in this price range!), there are a few minor issues:
As previously mentioned, shifter has a little slop, but performs as it should
The hood has a minor bow from not being set correctly after the paint job. It's been set properly now. A local body shop indicated it could be repaired for less than $200 to lie perfectly flat again.
Minor paint chips.
Bumpers have some pitting and small dings.
Includes a lockable car cover.
