The Jaguar E-Type is Legend. It needs no introduction and the
motive power. design and accolades heaped upon it are warranted and
well known. The Series I was introduced. initially for export only. br/>in March 1961 with the domestic market launch coming four months
later in July. The cars at this time used the triple SU carburetted
3. 8 litre 6-cylinder Jaguar XK6 engine from the XK150S. These cars
are rare and now the most valuable. In October 1964 the 3. 8 litre
engine was increased to 4. 2 litres. The Series I can be recognised
by glass-covered headlights. small 'mouth' opening at the front. br/>signal lights and tail-lights above bumpers and exhaust tips under
the number plate in the rear. 3. 8 litre cars have
leather-upholstered bucket seats. an aluminium-trimmed centre
instrument panel and console (changed to vinyl and leather in
1963). and a Moss 4-speed gearbox that lacks synchromesh for 1st
gear. As with all motorcars that underwent progressive design and
improvement. the Series II benefitted from open headlights without
glass covers. a wrap-around rear bumper. re-positioned and larger
front indicators and tail lights below the bumpers. better cooling
aided by an enlarged 'mouth' and twin electric fans. The engine is
easily identified visually by the change from smooth polished cam
covers to a more industrial 'ribbed' appearance. The interior and
dashboard were also redesigned. with rocker switches that met US
health and safety regulations being substituted for toggle
switches. New seats were fitted. which purists claim lacked the
style of the originals but were certainly more comfortable.

This lefthand drive 1969 Jaguar E-Type Series II Roadster with the
4. 2 litre engine and manual gearbox was first supplied by the
Jaguar main agents in New York and ended up in Delaware. A full
ground up restoration was completed in the USA between 2010 and
2012 at a cost in excess of £68. 00 which was comprehensively
undertaken with a full photographic record. after which time the
car was imported into the UK earlier this year. Finished in masons
black with black mohair roof and tan leather interior. this Series
II E-Type is supplied with a V5C registration document. an MoT test
certificate which expires in May 2014. a Heritage certificate. an
extensive history folder and photographic record of the mechanical
restoration all of which points to a sound and well-looked after
example of what Enzo Ferrari called. 'the most beautiful car in the
world'.
