The street rod world is full of amazing cars with wild paint schemes. extreme drivetrains and custom interiors that make most luxury penthouses self-conscious. While those cars are awesome to look at. the ten minute start-up procedures and blind hunts for kill switches and accessory controls wear on even the most enthusiastic rodder. Anyone that's been around these cars will tell you there is truly something special about owning a well-built street rod that can comfortably carry you across the country if the need arises. This 1940 Ford pickup is just that a completely functional vehicle wrapped up in an awesome shell. With a strong reliable small block. automatic transmission. air conditioning. and a great custom interior. this pickup was built with the driver in mind. Tired of impractical rods? Take a closer look as this Ford!

A truck like this doesn't come together over night but. judging by the restoration pictures. it looks like the restorer began on a stronger note than most. The cab and front fenders look to have been solid original pieces while the bed and rear fenders were newer all-steel additions. The door handles have been shaved but. otherwise. most of the effort went in making sure every panel was laser straight. Of course. the big attention grabber is the paint a deep glossy shade of purple which allows this pickup to easily stand out from the standard red. yellow. and black fare at car shows. The rich base is accented by a chameleon stripe that follows a factory line around the hood and cab as well as up front around the grille. It's a unique look and arguably one of the most tasteful uses of chameleon paint to date. The paintwork is rich and lustrous. highlighting the great Ford lines and making a solid first impression on anyone lucky enough to see the truck up close.

Beyond the paint. there are plenty of Ford details to admire as well as a few well-executed aftermarket additions. The front end wears its pointed grille with discrete V8 callouts above a show-ready chrome bumper. Pristine hood trim establishes the center line while. at either side. updated headlights have been fitted into showroom quality bezels. The greenhouse is filled with fresh glass outlined with malleable weather-stripping while a pair of stainless wipers keep the windshield clean. At the sides. round chrome rear-view mirrors mount to the doors while purple paint and Ford styling are left to fill out the view. Drop the tailgate to admire the wood-floor bed complete with stainless rails and mirror-like bedsides. Towards the cab. a small black case houses the relocated battery. With the taillight gate shut. the chameleon-accented Ford logo comes into view. framed by a stock bumper and deluxe Ford taillights fitted to the rear fenders. When those brake lights light up. they're accompanied by a frenched LED third brake light above the cab window. The final piece is a tear-drop gas cap which blends seamlessly into the driver-side fender.

If the goal is a mix of performance reliability. few motors can compete with a Chevrolet small block. Since 1967. the 350 cubic inch V8 has been the top choice for hot-rodders and that's exactly what you'll find between the fenders of this Ford. The foundation is a Goodwrench block which sports a 10066036 casting number and a coat of metallic purple paint. The block is topped with cast GM heads. an Edelbrock intake manifold. and a single Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor. Up front. the small block turns a chrome high-output alternator. a polished air conditioning compressor. and a power steering pump which holds fluid in a polished aluminum reservoir. The emphasis on show continues with chrome valve covers. breathers. and a chrome air cleaner assembly. Turn the key and the 350 starts with ease. idles well. and stays cool thanks to the updated radiator and single fan setup. The exhaust note comes courtesy of a set of block-hugging coated headers that breathe into a true dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers.

Under every good street rod there is a solid foundation. The front end of the Ford features a Heidts Mustang II-style cross member with tubular control arms and drop spindles while the rear is supported by leaf springs with fresh shocks. On the road. the truck offers an impressively modern driving experience which can be accredited to not only the suspension. but also the power rack-and-pinion steering and the power-assisted brakes which clamp down on front discs and rear drums. In the center. a TH350 three-speed automatic transmission handles shifting duties. spinning power back to a 10-bolt differential. All of this hardware is fitted to a frame finished in satin black. backed by finished purple cab floors and the wooden bed floors. Touches like the hidden brake booster. kill switch. and painted purple oil pan add both function and style while a few scrapes on the front cross member verify that this truck was built to be enjoyed. The whole setup rides on a set of body-matched rally-style steel wheels with chrome Ford hubcaps and BF Goodrich Radials T/As in sizes 205/60R15 up front and 295/50R15 out back.

Between the doors. Steve Holcomb of Pro Auto Custom Interiors worked his magic to create a clean and comfortable cab. The wood grain dash is the obvious focal point. filled in with details like billet pulls. Classic instruments gauges. and an Alpine AM/FM/CD head unit. The HVAC system is controlled by three knobs while treated air blows through one of three well integrated vents. A three-spoke steering wheel blends purple paint. aluminum. and a black grip for a unique look that tops a tilt column. Below. stainless-trimmed pedals and a tall Gennie shifter offer management of the other key controls. At the ground level. rich black carpeting spans the floors. protected by custom floor mats. The stock bench is replaced by a pair of modern bucket seats with shoulder belts and all the expected adjustments. They're wrapped in a mix of black and gray leather for a subtle by highly appealing look. That aesthetic continues onto the custom door panels which base their pattern off the shape of the arm rests. The stitch work is impressive and. mixed with billet hardware. offers a high quality look and feel. Overhead. a suede headliner brings more of the same color palette but carries a new texture. topped by a dome light and billet trim. Take a look behind the sun visors and you'll find controls for the power windows absolutely everything was thought out!

The sale of this pickup includes selected component manuals. installation guides. and a binder full of restoration images to fill you in on the process.

If you're the kind of enthusiast that likes to play with your toys as much as possible. this '40 Ford is a perfect addition to your garage. The outside will draw a crowd at any show you go to. the interior will keep you cool and comfortable. and the drivetrain will all but guarantee you get there and back without a hiccup. The work is done. the money is spent - all you have to do is enjoy it!
