A 1962 Chevrolet Corvette is a sought-after car because it's the final-year first-generation with some of the best features around. But when looking for the best C1 finale. most enthusiasts ask a few questions. Was it restored correctly? Does it have both tops? Is the V8 backed by the total control of a four-speed? And the reason why this one is so desirable is the answer to all those questions and more is "yes. "


This C1 is sort of like a Choose Your Own Adventure book. You can cruise with the color matching hardtop to show off the deep gloss that comes from an investment in a modern clearcoat respray. Or put the white convertible top in place so it looks almost like a two-tone with the whitewall tires. And of course. the one we all love is the open top motoring that way the world can see your ear-to-ear grin of driving one of the greatest icons around. No matter how you choose to motor in this 'Vette you'll love the fit and finish of the restoration. including plenty of attention paid to the all-important brightwork. These '62 cars look great in racecar red because they were the most aggressive of the bunch. In the back. this is the final year for the trunk. but the earlier tailfin versions were replaced with a streamlined ducktail (a precursor to the C2). The front still has those great wraparound chrome bumpers but the toothy grin was replaced with a blacked-out grille that wants to consume lesser cars ahead.


The red interior is fantastically coordinated. and when the top is off. it's almost hard to see there the bodywork ends and the bucket seats begin. The dual cowl dash is the focal point of the interior. so it's always great to see it looking this nice. While the big speedometer is always attractive. we love seeing a functioning tachometer on a manual transmission car like this one. The steering wheel looks awesome in red as well. and its ridges have that great thin. grippy feel that only came on the right cars of this era. Because you'll probably want to be cruising with the top down for as long as possible. it's always nice to know the heater is in good working order so you can still enjoy this roadster on a crisp fall Sunday drive. The new Retro-sound radio will also add to your cruising pleasure.


We know you're going to love showing this C1 off around town. and when you park. it will be irresistible to lift the hood. That's why the engine bay showcases a very correct-looking V8. Corvette people know you need a 327ci motor in this car. so not only do you get the right displacement. but also the details look great from the Corvette script valve covers to the ram's head manifolds. That's because it inhales deeply through a four-barrel carburetor and exhales with authority from the dual exhaust.
