1966 Mustang Convertible --GT 350 Resto Mod-

Here is what I know about the car: I bought it from the a previous owner who did all the work and gave up before installing the interior--he started out with 1966 v8 two barrel automatic convertible-- titled as such in California. (currently register/titled with copper classic car plates in AZ)  he purchased the car around 1983 or 4 and spent the last 20-30 tinkering working on the car--also sat for many years as a project in process. The engine was new but the car needed a restoration. hence what you have now.

The car was then completely bead blasted on a rotisserie (see pics) and all the convertible floor pieces as needed were purchased new and professionally installed. including the convertible rocker stiffeners. and floor pan braces.   It was an expensive rebuild. but the result is as you see;  as perfect a Mustang undercarriage that you can achieve.    The hood is original Shelby 350 fiberglass hood. set up for pins. like the shelby.   The wind wings were replaced with new OEM pieces. He  polished and chromed the frames when I installed them. As well as the side glass.  All chrome redone and all emblems fittings new--A complete nut and bolt resto!

The 289 engine was freshened with new rings and bearings. small hydraulic cam. 289 HIPO heads. headers. Ford Performance Hi Rise intake and new Edelbrock 600 CFM Carb.   It runs perfectly. and leaks nothing. Added the usual. new aluminum radiator. water pumps. fuel pump. etc. HIPO Air cleaner with 289 HIPO Decal.   the exhaust is custom built.   It is fitted up with clamps. he was planning to remove it and weld it up for a permanent setup. but you don't have to.   It is coated with Eastwood Stainless Steel paint. Transmission was rebuilt and a mild shift kit installed. I have just order a set of ford racing valve covers rather than the current chrome.

The suspension was lowered in the front. relocated a la "Shelby GT 350" spec. rear spring s reversed also.   Car is about 2" lower than stock.   Front springs are stiff  The car is equipped with Flaming River Rack and Pinion. Tilt steering column. and Shelby 350 steering wheel.   It has 4 wheel disc brakes. huge cross drilled BAER fronts and all new lines. vacuum booster etc.    The rear end was replaced with a 9" Ford Posi unit. just gone thru. painted with the red primer and set up right.   the trunk has a "Fuel Safe" 800 dollar fuel cell.   The wheels and tires are of course new with 16"x 8" running 205 55/16 front-- 225/55/16 rear Firestone Firehawk wide ovals.

The dash was replaced with the custom gauges that you see. along with Classic Air. incorporated into the original dash.   The original levers for the air and blower were adapted in to the Ac so it is as seamless an installation as possible.   The top fits perfectly and goes up and down well--A matching tonneau cover to the paint is a highlight. The car was completely rewired . with new wire harness. He paid about 400 for the Shelby Steering wheel. The interior is of course a new palomino pony interior. The interior the door panels and and dash paint is a perfect match to the palomino interior. AM/Fm stereo with MP3 plug in used. Dynamat sound deadening is every where. The previous owner mentioned he had over $40K invested before the interior. I have receipts that add up to well over $40K but gave up trying to tally them.

Accordingly. it is not a concours original. but more a "resto-mod".   This car is not for the purist but instead emphasizes  on overall performance. looks. and usability. My mechanic (race car guy) said it is the best handling and performs-- 60's mustang he has ever driven--several mustang centers here in the So Cal area say it is the best and should go yo auction with the camera underneath to show such a great car. will vouch for the car

The intent was for a cool driver that had great suspension and running gear and a classic look.   it would be hard to duplicate such a unique mustang--nobody knows original mileage but everything is new--hence. this car only has 217 miles since complete restoration.
