Ownership history and service records. Alfa Romeo contracted Bertone to design an innovative new sports car in 1967 to reveal to the world at the Expo 67 World's Fair in Montreal. Penned by Marcello Gandini. who created the iconic Miura just one year before. the concept featured innovative side gills and retractable slotted headlight shades on a classic. flowing shape. This sleek. unnamed coupe was met with much acclaim and began to be colloquially referred to as the Alfa Romeo Montreal. Three years later. Alfa debuted the Alfa Romeo Montreal as a production model at the 1970 Geneva Auto Salon. While strikingly similar stylistically to the Expo 67 concept. the production model abandoned the Giulia's four-cylinder for a high-revving quad-cam V8 based on the 2. 0 liter Tipo 33 Stradale engine. This 90° dry-sump V8 redlined at 7. 00 rpm and brought this stylish coupe to 60 mph from a standstill in 7. 1 seconds. and on to a top speed of nearly 140 mph. While the Montreal offers blistering performance and stunning Marcello Gandini good looks. it also features four seats and a trunk. making it quite a practical and usable sports car. This Montreal was first owned by a Mr. Mofetta. Milan. Italy. In 1972 as per Mr. Bob Cozza “Mr. Montreal”. it was brought to the United States by an Alfa executive. possibly Mr. Mofetta. It was then showcased in the lobby of the Alfa Romeo American corporate headquarters in Englewood Cliffs. New Jersey for years. Mr. Cozza's dealership Bobcor was situated in nearby Fort Lee at the time. Service records show the following ownerships and their changes. In 1980. this Montreal found itself in the ownership of a Mr. Paul Smith. El Centro. California. It was kept in Mr. Smith's ownership until 1986 and when sold to Mr. Clarke Gillespie Jr. . Dallas. Texas. Mr. Gillespie kept the Montreal for two years until selling in 1988 to Mr. Jack Kellam. Dallas. Texas. Mr. Kellam kept the Montreal through 1992 until selling to Mr. Jeff Ludwig. Jacksonville. Florida. Mr. Ludwig kept the Montreal from 1992. While in Mr. Ludwigs ownership. the car was referred to on Bruce Taylor's Montreal website as "Undiscovered Treasure"-- as it was featured in the AROC Quadrifoglio in 1994. In June 2003. this Montreal was purchase from Montreal legend Box Cozza (BOBCOR) at Stephens Alfa in Pompano Beach. Florida by its most recent owner and found a place in the most recent enthusiast's collection. While in its last ownership is has a documented service history to prepare this Montreal for use and enjoyment. As seen from the photographs. this Montreal has been treated to a handling kit and specially made Compomotive wheels. the originals also as seen in the photos come with the car. The Alfa Romeo with V8 engine is a superb car to drive. with great sound. power and handling to match. The Alfa Montreal is great automobile for both around town and cross-country or cross-continental touring pleasure. This is a well sorted Montreal that has been collector owned and cared for and which comes with an original owner's manual. original factory jack and two sets of keys.
