Before going into the detailed description of this 1950 Oldsmobile Bubble Top (Business Coupe). the 1950 Olds 88 Bubble Top coupe is one of the most iconic cars to follow immediately after WWII.   Keep in mind that after WWII in 1947 – 1950. most manufacturers were just re-manufacturing their 1941-1942 designs.   General Motor totally revamped the designs across the board for all divisions in 1949 and 1950.   The 1950 Oldsmobile 88 coupe was basically the size of a 1950 Chevy coupe however it had the powerful. new Oldsmobile V8 overhead valve engine coupled with the four speed Hydra-Matic.  It truly was the first muscle car. This car is completely stock and can lay a strip of rubber 50 feet long and was basically the fastest and sexiest car of its time.   Furthermore. this particular car was restored by the 1950 Olds guru. this gentleman restores nothing but 1950 Oldsmobiles and he considered this car to be one of his greatest restorations. Note the odometer reads 1. 48 miles and the actual mileage before restoration is unknown.  

The following is a detailed description of the car.

1950 Oldsmobile 88 ‘Bubble Top' Coupe – note that Oldsmobile called this their business coupe but the hot rodders of the day nicknamed it ‘bubble top' because of its small roof line.  

1st muscle car ever!  1950. Oldsmobile finally got their act together with the first muscle car.   They put on the beginning of tail fins on the rear fenders with the chrome trim and used the 303 cubic inch engine with the 4 speed Hydra-Matic to run the pants off of any ‘flathead' engine of the day.   It is important to note that what really gave the Oldsmobile "fast off the line" speed was the over square bore of the engine coupled to a 4 speed Hydra-Matic transmission with first gear being a tree stump pulling ratio that would lay rubber for fifty feet.

In 99% of the cases. all of the 1950 Oldsmobile ‘Bubble Top' coupes were hot rodded in their day and basically run into the ground.   It is very seldom today that you find a 1950 Oldsmobile (Bubble Top) in almost mint condition.   So that today less than a handful of these good bubble top coupes exist.

It should be noted that the business coupe/bubble top coupe should not be confused with the 2 door sedan which had a much larger roof line and rear quarter window and nowhere near the sexy profile of the bubble top coupe.   In 1950 Oldsmobile was winning most of the stock car races and immediately developed the reputation of ‘hot rod coupe'.
