Model History

This was the 25th Anniversary of the Corvette. and Chevrolet introduced the most extensively redesigned Corvette since 1968. Twenty Five years after the birth of 'America's Sports Car'. the Corvette finally got a chance to pace the Indy 500 in 1978. The car came standard with a 350 ci (L-48) motor. It was the first Pace Car in history to use an entirely stock drivetrain. Although only 300 replicas were originally planned to match the production number of the 1953 model. Chevrolet eventually had to produce 1 for each dealership in the US due to high demand. 6502 cars were produced.

Interior & Equipment

The Original Factory silver interior is stunning. The original bucket seats are perfect. a new carpet set has been fitted throughout. all original gauges and clock work perfectly. Music is provided through a premium sound system with SD card reader and USB input with Alpine speakers. Door cards are all original and unmarked as is the original steering wheels. The complete interior is to original Pace Car specification.

Exterior

Completely repainted in October 2011 to the original colour codes. the paintwork has a fantastic depth of sine and finish. The panel fit is arrow straight. obviously new Pace Car decals were fitted at this stage but all the metal decals are original as are the lights. glass and front and rear spoilers. The pop up lights operate perfectly. The underside has been completely waxoiled to a very nice standard. The mirror finish T-Tops are as new.

Wheels. Tyres & Brakes

The original slotted Pace Car alloys have been fully refurbished and are unmarked. she sits on all new original specification tyres.

Engine & Transmission

The original 350 small block can only be described as perfect. she starts on the button immediately and the automatic gearbox operates smoothly with ease. New exhaust headers have been fitted along with a full new stainless steel exhaust. The engine bay is very tidy and original. she has been detailed with a chrome dress up kit.

Summary

Here we have a very rare and Genuine Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Indy 500 Pace Car with the correct '9' code in the vin plate to verify. Only 1 car per Chevrolet Dealership were originally made to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Corvette.

This is a stunning example throughout with documented history back to 1999 when it was first registered here in the UK.

The car wants for nothing. she has been meticulously maintained by the previous owners and has been shown at the Corvette Nationals every year for the last 8 years.

This actual Pace car was extensively photographed in August 2001 by Codemasters to recreate the car for the TOCA Race Driver game that was released worldwide in June 2002. There is a letter from Codemasters confirming this in the history file along with a copy of TOCA for the Playstation and 3 fantastic colour prints of the car which were computer generated for the game.
This is the one to buy. examples such as this with such low mileage and history are near impossible to find.
