The sad day has arrived. I'm selling my 1981 Alfa Spider after owning it for almost 4 years. As the gentleman I bought the car from said “You'll never feel embarrassed driving this car”. it has proven to be true. In the years that I've owned it. I get stopped almost every time I drive it. Sometimes from Alfa aficionados other times from people just asking what kind of car it is. The only reason I'm selling this is because I have a large family and honestly hardly get to drive the car. As evidence. I've only put less than 1500 miles on the car since I've owned it. It has always been garage kept and is still that way. It clearly is an occasional driver. but I try to take it out for a spin regularly to keep it running great…and she does run fabulously. I will do my best to fully describe the car here and have attached many photos so you have as full a picture of the car as possible. Starting with the body:

The paint is in great shape and copper brown in color. She really shines and even more so with a nice waxing. As you can see in the picture. there is one small but noticeable scrape through the paint and to the primer. from a bicycle that hit it in the garage. Other than that there are very small and minor nicks here and there but nothing out of ordinary. One of the wheels is missing the center emblem (rear passenger). The undercarriage has no concerns that I would note…no major rust and certainly no rot. Clean for the car being 32 years old! The convertible top has 2 minor nicks where the metal supports meet the canvas when the top is down. but nothing of major concern. The top is in good shape overall. It's been missing the cable mechanism. which is there to help the top go down more smoothly. but I've never had a problem with that and the top goes down perfectly. The rubber straps that help to secure the top when it's down are missing. but again never presented a problem. I use the boot. which helps secure everything and give it a clean look with the top down. The catalytic converter “cage” has a broken weld. which causes a slight rattle sometimes. but it's a no big deal at all.

Mechanically:

This car runs great. I've had the following done by Europa Motors here in CT. These guys are professionals when it comes to these cars.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->-          <!--[endif]-->New thermostatic actuator

<!--[if !supportLists]-->-          <!--[endif]-->New engine mounts

<!--[if !supportLists]-->-          <!--[endif]-->New water pump & thermostat

<!--[if !supportLists]-->-          <!--[endif]-->New clutch master and slave cylinders

<!--[if !supportLists]-->-          <!--[endif]-->New fuel pump

<!--[if !supportLists]-->-          <!--[endif]-->All fluids change and good to go for many more miles

I've spent over $3. 00 to get the car running even better than it was when I got it. She has well under 80. 00 original miles & much. much more life to go. I also have the original owners manual in case you were wondering. I put an extra fuel filter on the line before the fuel pump to ensure there wasn't any problem with the new fuel pump. It can be taken off. since it causes the fuel light to come on…rest assured that the light isn't presenting any problem and the car drives fine. I've driven it like that for a year+

Interior

One common problem with these Alfas is that the dashboards split. When I got mine it was perfect. One day in the sun caused a very minor split of less than an inch or so. From then on if I park in the sun. I cover the dash with a blanket. The seats have “cracks” in the vinyl on the faces of the seats. which you can see in the pictures. These aren't rips. just aging cracks & wrinkles. The carpet is in pretty good shape and everything else seems to be in good shape on the interior. Looking up when the top is up. there's not a headliner to cover the convertible top bars. so it's not the prettiest looking think…but you will hardly use the car with the top up. so this never really bothered me.

Overall. the car is in good shape and can be driven as is or if someone wanted to get it to showroom state. it would make a great classic show car. Again. you would not be embarrassed driving her just as she is and you will get lots of attention and compliments like I do. Hopefully the pictures and description give you a great idea of the car. Please also feel free to research values for this car…my reserve is set very attractively low. Happy Bidding and please ask any questions
