1957 cadillac 2 door coupe

Unfortunately I have to sell my Caddy. Circumstances (divorce) dictate that it must be sold.

I bought the car in 2010 as a solid MOT'd runner. It was just about spluttering along on 7 cylinders. had next to no brakes(servo not working). an interior that looked like it was made from an old bar stool and some curtains. most electrical items bodged and a non original dashboard top.

I took it off the road. rewired all the faulty electrical circuits. added some fuses. fitted a new ignition switch and rebuilt the heater blower control. Remade the entire under-bonnet loom. fitted an electric windscreen wiper conversion and rebuilt the dynamo and starter. The voltage regulator was replaced. along with the main starter lead and earth straps. That little lot restored life to the electrics. Once all was proven to work I imported a new dash-top from the states. fitted a concealed remote control cd player and had all the interior metalwork repainted and lacquered.

The engine then came out. was stripped to a bare block and given a thorough inspection. Not a pretty sight !

It was rebored. crank ground. heads re-faced and all valve seats re-cut.

New parts as follows:- Pistons and rings. big ends. main bearings. camshaft bearings. camshaft. cam followers. timing chain and sprockets. valve guides. valves. valve springs. oil pump. fuel pump and all 16 h
hydraulic tappets.

The block was chemically cleaned and painted in the correct shade of Cadillac blue. along with the heads. The exhaust manifolds were re-studded. de-rusted and treated with vht paint.

The engine bay has been stripped back. resprayed and most fastenings etc replaced. it looks like new .

Reassembly included all new gaskets and oil seals. new engine mounts. re-cored uprated radiator. carb overhauled. and every ignition component replaced.

Needless to say it sounds pretty good now !!!

The brake servo was removed. cleaned up. and a proper overhaul kit fitted. brakes that actually work as they should now.

And it got a nice new battery.

All sorts of new weather-stripping replaced. new boot lock and now for the best bit !!!!

I pulled the interior out. sought out some very correct looking fabric and bought 3 complete hides ! It went off to a trimmer who has made a fabulous job of it. All the seat sides. backs. facings and valences would have been vinyl originally. not anymore. it's all leather!. Even the door panels are fabric and leather. The pictures don't do it justice. it looks stunning.

Having been hit with the divorce I have to say it really hurts to sell this car. but it has to go.

It has been test driven. tuned and drives beautifully and starts easily.

There is a little trimming left to do in the boot (mostly done and plenty of material for the job) and I'd suggest it will want a good check over and make sure all is well after so much has been rebuilt and replaced.

The body and chrome are excellent. everything works. the tyres are a recent matching set and the whole car looks fantastic.

Now for the really sad bit. it owes me a fortune. my best guess is about 27 grand !!!!! Not a concern when I intended to keep it but not so relaxed about it now !

I know it won't show me a profit. cover the hundreds of hours I have spent on it or even get me my money back. but I'd like as much as poss !!!

The car is stored at my home (yes. that has to go too) on Hayling Island. near Portsmouth. Although it's an island we do have a bridge and are very close to the A3/A27 junction.

Please remember that you are bidding to buy. and that a bid is a firm commitment. It's a big car (about 18 feet long and over 6 feet wide). doesn't do an awful lot of miles to a gallon of petrol but is cheap to insure and MOT and tax exempt.
