I built this Fastback as a day 2 Restomod. The car is mostly stock appearing with the notable exceptions being the clean body with no emblems and the 16 X 8 Vintage 45 wheels. The interior is also stock with a 65 Shelby style 3" seat belt for the driver. The front suspension and exhaust are also duplicates of a 65 Shelby. The car runs and drives great now with approxamately 150 miles to get everything adjusted and sorted out. The ride is firm but not harsh. The handling is absolutely amazing. The big tires. 65 Shelby front suspension and Prothane Polyurethane full kit give the Fastback race car handling. The side exhaust is loud when going through the gears but tones down to a nice purr when out on the road in 5th gear. Thank goodness for overdrive. The engine is a 289 built similarly to a K code 289 High Performance. The engine starts easily. doesn't overheats. sounds great at an idle and effortlessly revs up the powerband. This is basically a brand new 65 Mustang Fastback with lots of cool performance mods to make a great classic Mustang. Here is a quick overview of some of the features of this Fastback

• The new metal on this car includes: both quarter panels. both trunk pans. tail panel. truck lid. both long floor pans. both complete door shells. front valance. rear valance and NOS Ford C5ZZ front fenders. All exterior chrome is new: bumpers. front park lights. tail lights. door handles. grille trim. gas cap and antenna.

•Complete side exiting exhaust system is new including Shelby style Tri Y headers.

• 1" lowered control arms. export brace. Monte Carlo bar. quick steering box and 1" sway bar. Prothane Polyurethane master kit for front and rear suspension. KYB Gas-a-just Front shocks

•289 Engine rebuilt with a high volume oil pump. double roller timing chain. flat top pistons. 3/4 race cam. Edelbrock aluminum intake. Holley carb. Accel dual point dist. vintage Mickey Thompson aluminum valve covers and Tri-Y headers.

•The interior is 1965 trim code 29 = Palomino. All interior soft trim is new while all of the rear fiberglass parts are original. The complete bare interior was lined with Dynamat - all the way up the firewall. the cowl. and the roof. The car has an usually solid. secure feeling for a vintage Mustang

•Heater box completely restored with a new foam and seal kit. Correct copper/brass heater core used along with new defroster ducts and new hoses.

•All front end and under hood wiring is brand new: headlight harness. engine gauge harness. alternator harness.  The original dash wiring was in excellent condition so reused.

•The 9" rear has a set of 3. 50 gears that were completely rebuilt with a master kit and ring and pinion set from Summit Racing. With the exception of the rear backing plates. the brakes are new. including: brake spring kit. self adjuster kits. wheel cylinders. brake hose. lines. and drums. Front calipers. pads and hoses are new. Master Cylinder and proportioning valve are new

•A new clutch. pressure plate. and throw out bearing were used on a freshly resurfaced flywheel and new pilot bushing. All of the clutch linkage was rebuilt with new sleeves and bushings. including the underdash clutch pedal support.

To get ready for paint I stripped this Fastback completely down to the bare metal unibody and started with metal etch primer. This was followed by epoxy primer. lots of block sanding and finally single stage code 3 Poppy Red. I did a very light color sand with 2500 on the horizontal surfaces. The sides remain untouched. That's just how nice the car was sprayed. I spent just as much time sanding and prepping in the truck and door jambs as on the outside of the car. There is no overspray since the car was painted in pieces and carefully reassembled. The paint job alone would cost well over 10k to duplicate. While on the rotiserie. the entire underside of the car was sprayed with black epoxy primer so it looks good and is protected for many years to come. The underside is not concours correct but is highly detailed and clean.

I could go on and on about all of the details of this fantastic Mustang and still be forgeting things. If there's something specific you would like to know please give me a call or send me an e-mail. I would love to talk about this Mustang with you. Also. I would be glad to alter the appearance of the car to meet the owners specific style. You may like all of the stock/correct 65 trim and emblems or perhaps the stripe and badges of a GT. This can all be arranged prior to shipping the car to the new owner. Lets talk.
