1979 Mercedes 280SE W116. Beautiful Time Warp Vehicle

I have for sale my 1979 W116 280SE Mercedes saloon. This is a genuine timewarp car and is in very very good condition for a 33 year old car.

I have recently serviced it. with New Bosch Ignition leads. new plugs. New Rotor arm. Oil service and new filter. Flushed out the water system and refilled with new anitfreeze/inhibitor. Changed the main Fuel Filter

I had a full stainless steel exhaust system fitted 3 weeks ago. s candidly it was all beyond component repair. this cost me £700 and of course has a life time guarantee.

It starts on the key everytime without fail. any conditions

I have also just fitted a K&N air filter

Fitted a brand new complete rear bumper and eyebrows as they were all showing signs of bad corrosion. particulalry. the main bumper. being beyond re-chroming etc. The new set cost me £300. but were absolutely worth every penny as it has finished the car properly. I always use stainless nuts and bolts to prevent further issues.

Faults I know of

The electric aerial goes up all the way. but only comes down 2/3rd of the way

The drivers door electric window needs some adjusting. as it rises OK until the last few inches then goes off centre when closing. don. know how to fix this. If you just place your hand on the closing window and push up gently it closes fine. It didn. work at all. so  I removed the regulator. cleaned all the gunge from the gear wheels. replaced the sliding arm universal coupling with a new one MB one. tightened the wheel rivets. greased it all and it works 100%. Think I must have re-assembled it out of line somehow. pretty sure this is a minor fault to fix. it goes down perfectly. so can't be much.

This car is in really good condition. IT IS NOT CONCOURS. but certainly a level 1 car. I use it every weekend. and have shown it already at 3 shows this year. The paintwork it outstanding. I am no expert. but think it must be original. Where I have removed Bumpers and trim for cleaning. it looks to be the same colour.

It drives perfectly. the gear box and kickdown work 100% and engine runs at full gauge oil pressure. It doesn't overheat in traffic. and the 280 engine is very smooth. but in S mode can also be quite aggresive for a 33 year old classic. The brakes are very good and slow this seriously well built old girl easily. I have a lot of paperwork with the car including 24 old MOT's.

You will want this if you view it. as they are becoming rare nowadays. the last era of really well engineered and constructed cars in my humble opinion. It has a lot of "presence" and is a big comfortable car from a different time. Candidly it could be used for Weddings I suppose. if that is your thing. as the interior is also excellent.
