vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this 1979 L82 Corvette in excellent condition and with only 17. 40 original miles. This Corvette looks fantastic. runs great. and is an excellent driver. The car is totally solid with nice lines and no rust issues. The 2-Tone Light Beige & Brown over Beige Cloth is a very rare and beautiful color combination that looks great on the car. It is an original Corvette Light Beige (59) car with Beige (59C) interior. verified by the codes on the trim tag. which is pictured below. 1979 Corvettes were not available from the factory with 2-tone color combination. but the previous owner told us that this Corvette received the 2-tone treatment from the dealer when it was brand new as a dealer installed option. This Corvette is verified as an original and correct L82 model by the fifth digit of the VIN. which is a "4" indicating the L82 engine. as well as the ZBB suffix code stamped on the engine block.

The car is absolutely loaded with describable options as one can see in the extensive list of RPO codes above such as the factory D80 spoilers. N90 Aluminum wheels. 8-track player. tilt wheel. power windows. power locks. sport mirrors. air conditioning. and most importantly the L82 engine. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car. but also the clear Ohio title. pictured below. showing the mileage as "Actual. " Please peruse all of the photos. video. list of numbers. and other information below to get a true sense of how nice. clean. and original this Corvette really is.

As a side note. this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.   We hand pick each car after careful inspection.   Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.   We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.   Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.   We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.   If you have a question about the Corvette. just give us a call.

  model description

The Corvette evolution continues" announced the slogan from the 1979 Corvette sales catalog. The L48 engine received the dual-snorkel air intake introduced in 1978 for the optional L82 V-8. which added 10 horsepower. All Corvettes in 1979 now had the high-back bucket seats introduced on the 1978 limited-edition Indianapolis 500 Pace Car. A higher pivot point allowed the seat backrest fold more flat and level with the luggage area floor. which drastically improved access to the rear storage area.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts. but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example. all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description* VIN 1Z8749S414919 The first digit. "1. quot; indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.   The "Z" is the series. Corvette.   The "87" is the body style. 2-door sport coupe.   The fifth digit is the engine. 4. correct for an L82 car.   The sixth digit. "9. quot; indicates the model year. 1979.   The "S" is the plant where the car was produced. St. Louis.   The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 14. 19th Corvette made for 1979. Body Build Date E09 "E" corresponds to December. and "09" is the ninth day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is December 9. 1978. Engine Code V1130 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint. MI plant.   The "11" is the eleventh month of year and the "30" is the thirtieth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on November 30. 1978.   This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car. Suffix Code ZBB This means the motor was intended for an L82 Corvette with an automatic transmission. which is correct for this car. Engine Block Casting Number 3970010 The engine block has the correct 3970010 casting number. Engine Block Casting Date K 22 8 "K" is November. "22" is the twenty-second day of the month. and "8" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on November 22. 1978.   Intake Manifold Casting Number 14007378 The intake manifold has the correct 14007378 casting number for an L82. This intake was only used on Corvettes in 1979 Carburetor 17059228 The original carburetor has the correct stamping for a 1979 L82 Corvette with an automatic transmission and a/c. The fourth digit. "5. quot; means the carb was built in the 1976 - 1979 production run. The fifth digit. "9. quot; means it was built for the 1979 model year. The six digit. "2. quot; indicates that it is a 4BBL carb. The seventh digit. "2. quot; means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM. The last digit. "8. quot; means it was intended for use in an automatic transmission car such as this. Carburetor Date Code 3318 The firth three digits. "331. quot; indicate the 331st day of the year. The last digit. "8. quot; is the year in which the carburetor was produced. 1978. So this carburetor was stamped on November 27. 1978. Distributor 1110291 The distributor is original and correct for an L82 Corvette with an automatic transmission with a 1110291 stamping. Distributor Date Code 8L16 The "8" is the last digit of the calendar year. the "L" denotes November. and "16" is the sixteenth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on November 16. 1978. This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine. Transmission Date Code B 9 S 29 D The "B" means the transmission as build in the Parma plant. The "9" is the year. 1979. The "S" is the eleventh month of the year and the "29" is the twenty-ninth day of the month. The "D" is the shift in which the transmission was made. This would mean the transmission was made during the day shift in Parma on November 29. 1978. Transmission VIN Stamping 414919 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN. 414919. are stamped on the main case of the transmission and pictured below meaning this engine is original to this car. Windshield CJ "C" is November and "J" is 1978 so this window is original. made in November of 1978.   This is correct as it predates the build date of the car. Rear Window YJ "Y" is October and "J" is 1978 so this window is original. made in October of 1978.   This is correct as it predates the build date of the car. Driver's Window CJ "C" is November and "J" is 1978 so this window is original. made in November of 1978.   This is correct as it predates the build date of the car. Passenger  Window CJ "C" is November and "J" is 1978 so this window is original. made in November of 1978.   This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.

condition

Exterior

The 2-Tone Beige over Brown exterior is in nice driver condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has a terrific gloss. deep shine. and smooth finish. The term "original paint" is thrown around a lot in Corvette ads and in our experience it is usually not true. However. we believe that this Corvette has original paint. We have seen no overspray. repairs. or other signs of paintwork. Both doors open and shut nicely as do the hood and headlights and the car exhibits good body panel fit overall. The N90 aluminum wheels and center caps are in beautiful condition with a brilliant finish and no curb rash. The tires have about 80% tread left. but do show their age. As one would expect from a paintjob with this many year on it there are some blemishes and checking around car that were too tiny to show up in pictures. but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car. it is very clean and this Corvette has absolutely NO RUST ISSUES. We have included specific photos of the areas most prone to rust. The frame is totally solid with no rust around the "key hole" are in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield. which are the two most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL of the glass on this Corvette. both side windows. the rear window. and even the windshield are all date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of December 9. 1978 (E09). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Beige interior in this Corvette is in spectacular original condition. The seats are in excellent condition with no excessive wear. just some small marks in the typical area where the driver gets in and out. Please note that these are the original seats and skins. not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. This is especially important on this car because this style of seat cover no longer is made and replacements are not available. The door panels are in good shape and. unlike many Corvettes of this age. they fit well and tight to the door. The door pulls are solid and intact. The dash and console look awesome with no sun fading. The jack and jack handle are still with the car. stored correctly behind the passenger seat. and pictured below showing the original decals on the compartment lid. The original spare is still with the car and has never been used. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes. Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well. especially a light color like Beige. and the excellent condition of this original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life and another great verification of the low original mileage.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This L82 Corvette seems to be in very good mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time. runs well. and idle smooth. It drives great and feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 65mph. shifting through all the gears. braking to stoplight. and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also. the engine compartment is beautifully clean. detailed. correct and complete as one can see in the photos. Even the ignition shielding and original catalytic converter are still in place.

The radio works as do all the exterior lights. horn. wipers. power windows. and all of the gauges with the obvious exception of the clock. The blower works on all speeds and the a/c also works and blows cold. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly. Also. the headlights go up properly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. There complete operation form both switches can be viewed in the video below. The power locks work to unlock. but not lock. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car. especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day

The car runs and drives as well as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall. this 1979 Corvette is in magnificent driver condition. The higher performance and high horsepower models like this L82 always draw a premium over their standard counterparts. The originality. the very low miles. the many options. the beautiful original color combination. and the great overall condition make this car especially important and hard to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased considerably over the past several years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
