Tub and Frame

Wrangler YJ tub mounted on a stock CJ 7 frame with brand new 1” over stock Daystar polyurethane body mounts. Before painting the tub was sandblasted inside and out. The inside of the tub was lined spray-in bedliner (not Rhinoliner) and the underside was freshly undercoated. Tub has one rust spot above the body mount in front of the left rear tire (see picture) and two small rusty spots on either side of the front floors (see pictures). New front fenders and all new fender flares. new marker lights. tail lights. and rearview mirrors. New windshield frame. windshield frame gasket. and windshield gasket. along with a new wiper motor. All coated with fresh dark grey paint. and topped with new Best Top Bikini top and half doors. 1/8” steel rocker guards with 3/16 bottom plates complete the tub. The frame was sandblasted. reinforced in the rear to allow for a solid hook point. and painted.

Stock fuel tank with all new steel fuel lines.

Engine

This Jeep is powered by a completely rebuilt 1978 Chrysler 440 that only had 53. 00 original miles on it before rebuild. It contains a high torque camshaft. steel crank. stock connecting rods. forged pistons. an 8. 5:1 compression ratio. Stock iron heads with new guides and seals. aluminum intake manifold. and a brand new Holley 650 carburetor top off the engine. It carries 25 to 75 psi of oil pressure depending on RPM and runs a constant 190 degrees. It charges 13. 5 to 14 volts depending on RPM.

The ignition system uses stock Chrysler electronic distributor and vaccumm advance triggered by a GM HEI module and a Ford E-Core coil. I've found this ignition to work the best. but will also include a complete MSD box in the sale if you want it.

It's exhausted through Hooker ProComp headers connected to two new Thrush welded mufflers through 2 ¾” exhaust. The engine is cooled by a new aluminum radiator with new fan.

It puts out approximately 300 horsepower and 450 foot pounds of torque at around 3000 RPM.

Transmission and transfer case

The engine is backed by a completely rebuilt Chrysler 727 trans with Red Alto clutches and Kevlar bands. 4 pinion planetary. No valve body modifications. Dana 300 transfer case. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a Tattons CV rear driveshaft.

Bouchillion downshift linkage. All steel transmission lines with flare fittings. NO rubber hose or hose clamps.

New B&M shifter.

Axles. suspension. and steering

GM 14 bolt rear axle with 3:73 gears. Detroit Locker. disc brakes. and stock axle shafts. It measures 63” wheel mount to wheel mount. The front axle is a Dana 60 (also narrowed to 63” wheel mount to wheel mount)  with 3:73 gears. open differential. and Warn hubs. The axle shafts were narrowed by Dutchman. Tires are 37x12. 50 16. 5 BF Goodrich Baja T/As mounted on Hummer H1 12 bolt double beadlocks. Beadlock run-flat inserts are not installed but come with the Jeep. Front tires are brand new. rear tires are 98%. All new wheel bearings. axle seals. and axle u-joints.

Spring over suspension using stock Wrangler YJ leaf springs and new u-bolts.

All new calipers. rotors. and brake hoses. and master cylinder and brake lines. The front brake lines are 24” long (coated for DOT approval) stainless steel braided brake lines.

New rear shocks. Rancho RS5000 approx. 10” of travel.

New front shocks and shock hoops. Rancho RS 5000 with 15” of travel.

New springless high steer arms with one-ton crossover steering.

New U-jointed steering shaft.

Other

Optima red top battery. 94 amp GM one-wire alternator. All battery connections have soldered ends. New water pump and all new hoses. New oil pump. New starter.  All fresh fluids and filters.

Engine and transmission have been left unmodified for reliability.

Total lift is about 9” (Springover + 1” body lift).

Running and driving

The Jeep runs and drives well. No pulling. shimmy. or vibration. The brakes work excellent. It's a very strong runner. I have been driving it daily and it will cruise at 80mph no problem. The speedometer is accurate within 1 MPH. Driven nicely. it gets around 15 miles per gallon.

This Jeep needs NOTHING to be a daily driver. Because no project is ever actually complete. the following is a list of items a new owner may wish to pick away at:

Although it runs down the road just fine. the tires are unbalanced as I cannot find anyone near me who can balance them. With no shaking or vibration. I've actually found no need. It could probably use a steering stabilizer…just in case. The left dashboard speaker grill has been cut into a circle by a previous owner to mount a tach. It is currently covered with a block-off plate. This also resides next to a small hole that someone put in the dash to mount a switch. The speedometer glass is cracked and the odometer doesn't work. The original cardboard glove box fell apart and was removed. I don't have any gloves. so I saw no need to replace it. There is no stereo. (Who needs music when you have a 440 under the hood?) There are no sway bars. Steering column was previously in a Jeep with a column-shifted automatic. and the column shifter has been removed. It needs windshield wiper blades. It does not have a spare tire carrier. I do have a 33X12. 50 16. 5 Cooper mounted on an 8-lug wheel that I'll throw in for free. As with most old Jeeps. the gas gauge doesn't work.

Although the paint is brand new. it is not perfect. This Jeep was built to wheel and it just doesn't make sense to put the time and money into a fancy paint job to get it all scratched up. Therefore. this is what we call “trail paint”. It's fresh. pretty. and easy to cover with another layer once the tree branches and rocks have taken their toll.

I have been driving this Jeep around daily since it was finished. It turns heads everywhere it goes. and puts just about all other Jeeps to shame.

I will be more than happy to answer any questions or post additional pictures. There is nothing I don't know about this Jeep. I built it from the ground up over the last three years. and aside from sending the axles to Dutchman. everything else was done by me.
