1949 Chrysler Windsor right hand drive.

We have owned this car for a few years now. having bought it on Ebay from a chap in Portsmouth.   Apart from the 1 year that he owned it. it had spent the previous 20-25 years in a barn.   It started life in Detroit and was shipped brand new to Canada  where it was converted to right hand drive on the order of the then CEO of International Harvester UK.   This gentleman drove it for a few years before selling it to a doctor in the Portsmouth area. who also used it for a few years before laying it up in a barn.

Since being in my possession. I have had the bumpers re-chromed. plus a brand new interior in red and white marine vinyl.   The carpets are gel backed ‘bathroom' quality.   As we use this vehicle for wedding and prom hire. it has been religiously maintained and MOTed twice a year as part of the licensing requirements.   I have converted it to 12 volt so you can actually see where you are going at night.   This also aids starting as the engine spins over so much quicker.   However. due to lack of use. over the winter period. the starter solenoid is sticking somewhat but only needs lubricating to rectify this.   The engine is the flathead 6 cylinder C45.

The car is also fitted with electronic ignition and an electronic (not points!) fuel pump.   This aids considerably in reliability.   It is also fitted with an alternator which keeps the battery charged reliably.   The car is also shod with near-new 15” whitewall radials.   There is also a stereo head unit mounted in the glove box. powering a 4 speaker system.

Apart from these modifications to bring it up to modern use. the car is as standard.

The engine has just had a major service. to include new spark plugs. leads. oil and filter.   It sounds like a Swiss watch when running!

The gearbox is the fluid drive semi-automatic type and works perfectly.   The front brakes have been renewed along with the rebuilt master cylinder.

The downside is the paint; quality is not up to show standard. although useable on a daily basis.   Small areas of rust are bubbling now around the rear screen and over the offside headlight.   There are also a few other bits around the stainless trim. but it does not seem to have gone through.   The rest of the shell seems very straight and strong. with the floor pans and sills all intact.   There has been some work carried out to the rear inner wings before my possession.   The quarter light surrounds are quite rusty. but I do have some absolutely gorgeous replacements which are original un-restored items.   The rubbers obviously are hard.   I do have new door and boot lid seal rubbers as yet unfitted but will go with the car.   There are also some other bits like over riders and are front and rear bumpers which do need a re-chrome. but are solid and very useable.   Some of the glass is cracked. but being flat laminated. it is very cheap and easy to replace.   The only non-working items in the car are the original valve radio and the fuel gauge seems to have a mind of its own.

I have had absolutely no problem with this vehicle in the few years I have owned it.   But owing to the downturn in demand. it is no longer a viable financial proposition to keep it.   It will however continue to provide comfortable and reliable service for someone who wants a relatively low maintenance old American vehicle.

Viewing is highly recommended. so is a drive so that you can fully appreciate how lovely this old car is.

Registration plate is original and transferable. worth approx £650

Cash on collection is preferable.   No cheques. no transfers.   All usual Ebay rules.   You bid to buy. no time wasters.
