I'm selling my gorgeous 1968 Chevy Camaro SS Clone… Let me say right up front …. If you are looking for a patched up “rust free” (a term used by a lot of people VERY loosely) dunger that you can nick for 25 grand or a genuine numbers matching original car for peanuts then move on to the next ad. This is not your car!!!!! If a high standard. regular driver and club show car that requires only minimal regular maintainance and will be an investment for many years to come is what you are looking for then read on……. Having said that let me tell you about mine……
I bought it from a guy in Tennesee who had done a very nice job of fitting the 350 Crate motor and turbo 350 Transmission. The engine fires up first time. every time and is a nice mild street engine thanks to the ported heads. tuned length headers. Holley 600 carby and Edelbrock manifold. HEI Ignition and Comp Cam. It's great on fuel and looks great with the fully polished Edelbrock Valve covers. polished pulleys and brackets and chromed water and power steering pumps. Keeping it cool is a polished aluminium radiator with chrome electric fan that ensures it runs reliable mile after mile. No embarrassment parking this car at a cruise night or show with the hood up. The 2 ¼” Magnflow exhaust ensures no power is lost but keeps the comfort inside whilst letting everyone you cruise past know that you've get a serious V8 up front. The fully rebuilt Turbo 350 transmission has a larger capacity pan and B&M shift kit as well as a B&M Megashifter for that little bit of racer in all of us.
So let's go over the body. Firstly the guy I bought it off had it painted prior to fitting the engine. At the time he also had a new one piece floor fitted and the rear shocks moved inboard to accommodate up to 10” wheels. The first thing I did when it arrived here was go over the replacement floor and seam seal it inside and out and installed sound mat and underbody sealer. This body is better sealed than factory and will last many more years. I replaced the door hinges and serviced all the window and latch mechanisms to make everything function like it did 44 years ago. I replaced all the interior chrome knobs. handles. mirror and sill panels and fitted new headlining which along with the original seats has a great classic feel. Interior upgrades include Autometer gauges and Tacho to keep an eye on the engine and the safety of a full seatbelt upgrade to Australian retractable units.
Outside subtle changes include a clear taillight and sidelight conversion along with crystal headlights for awesome night vision. The electrical wiring has been upgraded to provide power for the 100w halogen headlights and electric fan. Also the lighting has been done correctly for Australian Roads and a chrome 100 amp alternator keeps the whole system fully charged at all times. All the chrome and stainless trim has been replaced or mirror polished to compliment the Manhattan Blue paint with Ultra White Racing stripes. A new cowl induction bonnet and front and rear spoilers accentuate the sexy Camaro body lines whilst adding performance . This is a high end. driver quality car with nothing to spend except your time cruising in it and talking to the people who always ask about it.
Nothing looks better on a musclecar than Torq Thrust wheels and the 17” Chrome versions (8 inch front and 9 inch rear) on this car add a nice balance between a modern size and a classic look. Off course I lowered it and thanks to the upgraded geometry of the Global West Front A-Arms and reset SS Multileaf Springs this car rides smooth yet firm and steers unbelievably. New shocks. tie rods and ball joints keep it nice and tight and the upgraded front discs along with rebuilt rear brakes and new chrome master cylinder make sure that stopping is as effortless as everything else on this dream.
The am/fm mp3 radio has been snuck into the glovebox to allow space for the gauges in the dash and sounds great. Of course there's a new windscreen and I replaced most of the weatherstrip rubbers. No surprises here…. everything has been serviced and works as it should.
So why am I selling it……. Again …. I'll try to paint the picture…I'm 61 and retired after 34 years working as mechanic and engineering modified cars in my own business. I decided that a couple of “projects” would keep me occupied and after doing a couple of other American Classics I thought I had found my “keeper” in this beauty……that was until the same guy who found this 68 came up with a “barn find” 68 Mustang fastback for me……I need some space and some cash to do the resto…. wifey wants the motorhome…. so some toys must go…. You know how it works!!!!
As I have pointed out this is a 1968 Camaro upgraded to better than SS spec and brought into the new millennium. restored to survive for many years to come……. fast and loud and a head turner……not a 2013 model “cookie cutter” that could be a Kia or a Mercedes or a Chery (or maybe all 3 made in the same factory with a different badge) It's a CAMARO with a shiny 350 badge on front. …and always will be…. The price I'm asking is what I have in it without adding any factor for my time……. I spent over 400 hours on this project…. after buying it with the main stuff done.
Check the last picture . included to a buyer who pays the buy it now price is my glove box lid personally autographed by Chip Foose at Motorex 2013 PLUS for NSW buyers I will include a NSW or $500 credit to interstate buyer for freight. I have listed the car elsewhere and will end auction it any time if it sells.
If you are seriously seeking a quality car that will be a joy to own and drive then call me today…. It's the right car for the right person…. Thanks for looking…. Ron 0400366344
