I have decided to put my 1986 Merkur XR4TI up for sale. The story of the car is that it came from California to Michigan. Along the way it broke a timing belt and was car dollied to the previous owner's house. where he then put the car up for sale. I purchased the car in November of 2005. After purchasing the 1986 Merkur XR4TI I decided it was worth the effort to save. due to the car having no real rust because of the California body. It was discovered that the car had a front quarter pannel replaced at one time. It was in good condition and the car went off to have the body work re-done.

Over the next several months. time was spent on getting all the dings and dents out  before laying down a nice coat of primer. The car was then sprayed with Dupont Nason Ful-Thane 2k Urethane paint. with the color I chose being Nissan year 2000 SILVER Effect.  I preferred the look this color brought over the original white paint the car was previously painted. The double spoiler was painted flat black along with the hood louvers.   The car was finally beginning to meet the expectations I had. The silver and black really make for a nice color combination. It is a great street/cruiser car.

The interior follows the same color combination as the exterior of the car. The upper portion of the dash is black with only 2 small cracks (really nice dash for a XR4TI). The lower portion is a light gray. It has a factory cassette style radio with only one speaker located in dash (factory location). The wires are present for the rest of the speakers. giving you the ability to add more if desired.   The dash also has an aftermarket auto meter air fuel gauge and boost gauge as well as having a 150 mph speedometer.   The two front seats where reupholstered with the Merkur logo embroidered   into the back of them. There is a battery box in the trunk where the optima red top battery is now located to help with weight distribution.

As for the engine. the car holds its factory 2. 3 turbo although it is modified. C-tech Performance out of Wyoming. Michigan helped out with the machine work to get this car going again. The 2. 3 turbo engine received:

Decked the block

Block was bored and honed

Polished Crank Shaft

Chamfer Oil Holes (Crankshaft)

Polished Rod Beams

Reconditioned Rods

4 Modified Piston's

CCed Head per Cylinder 58. 75cc Polished Chambers.

Polished the cambers

The engine also received ARP rod bolts. ARP main studs. and ARP head bolts. To top it off the engine received a cosmetic head gasket. The turbo was also upgraded to a t3/t4 hybrid. To help the car with air flow. upper and lower intakes where ported and polished with a 65mm throttle body added. There is also a large Volvo intercooler located in front of the radiator with an electric fan to assist in keeping things cooler. There is a 3 inch exhaust right off the turbo running all the way to the back. The only restriction is through a Dynomax super turbo muffler. The 2. 3 turbo is managed by a PE computer out of a 1986 SVO stick shift car. It has 42-lb Lucas injectors and a large Vam to allow for a great air to fuel ratio. Feeding the injectors is a BBK 255lph fuel pump.

Transmission upgraded to a c4 automatic transmission with Kevlar clutches  and bands  along with a stall convertor.

To add to the street car appeal I desired. I decided to place BFG Drag Radials on the rear. The car has factory rims. The power steering was removed (The car is still very easy to steer because it is only a four cylinder and not carrying much weight). The air conditioning was removed because with the windows open and the sunroof/moon roof a lot of airflow is capable. The brakes and the front suspension were rebuilt at the time of this project.   The only thing that was not touched or tweaked on this car was the factory rear end. Over 2 years this car was re-built. The only issue is the gas gauge works intermediately.

Overall I have put about 2. 00 miles on the cars since the rebuild. Original mileage unknown original cluster showed 34. 18. The car brought home a trophy at one of the many car shows I have taken it to around West Michigan. and catches the interest of many people. The car has not been driven in the rain or snow since I have owned it. It has always been garaged and under a car cover that is included too. Also included with the car is a bunch of parts including a spare short block. hood. spoiler. front grill piece. and more.

There is a $500. 00 deposit due within 24 hours of the end of the auction. The remainder is due before the car leaves my house.   The car is sold as is. Please ask any questions before the end of the auction.
